About this item

  • This Tattoo Concert Uke Takes Its Design From Traditional Hawaiian Body Ornamentation
  • The Designs Were Monochromatic, Tattooed In Black Against Brown Skin
  • The Patterns And Layout Were Strongly Geometric And There Were Many Shapes And Symbols Representing The Natural Island World
  • The Fret Markers Are Stylized Sharks Teeth

This Tattoo Concert Uke takes its design from traditional Hawaiian body ornamentation. The designs were monochromatic, tattooed in black against brown skin. The patterns and layout were strongly geometric and there were many shapes and symbols representing the natural island world: stones, waves, fish, sharks, turtles, rain, sun, and birds. This design is based on a Hawaiian turtle (honu), a symbol of longevity and endurance rendered in a Polynesian tattoo style. The fret markers are stylized sharks teeth. This concert uke boasts a clear, resonate sound both by virtue of its Concert body and Mahogany construction. Beautiful sound - tremendous value.

First let me say that this uke looks great in person! As another reviewer noted it is pretty light so not sure of it's fragility. But the craftsmanship is top notch! Straight out of the box the action was way too high! But after removing the saddle and a quick sanding with 180 grit sandpaper and now this thing sounds amazing! Amazing! I have a martin concert uke also and this thing keeps up with it no problem. I highly recommend this uke but if you get it know that you will need to properly set it up by adjusting the height at the saddle. If you don't feel comfortable doing it any music shop will do it for you fairly cheaply. But ever uke should be adjusted properly like this anyway.great product here

Purchased this from Amazon Warehouse marked as "good/used" and I'm happy that when I received it, there's no any sign of usage though the box is damaged. Anyhow, the uke is in perfect condition, no scratch and has a beautiful tone. Got this for 123dhm or less tha $34

I ordered this ukulele based on the positive reviews, I liked what the company, Luna is all about after checking them out, and because this uke is just plain cool looking and has that "Island" feel to it. I have played guitar for over 40 years, mostly finger-picking and classical style, so I was excited to see what kind of music I could make on this instrument. I had never played a ukulele before but decided that a tenor ukulele would probably be a good place to start in terms of size and to be more playable for public audiences. After tuning it up and googling a cord chart, I was playing songs the first day and have even wrote a couple of songs since then. I can't say enough good things about this instrument. It's fun to play, has a pretty nice sound, and is right around $100. You can buy less expensive ones out there and I considered them, but I'm glad I chose this one as it feels like a great entry level ukulele. Some reviews noted that it doesn't stay in tune very long and I have found this to be true, the only negative. And it could be that the strings are not quite stretched out yet. Regardless, if you're looking for uke that not only has great style but sounds good, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I bought this as a Christmas present for a young friend who wanted to get a start playing strings. Very high quality instrument, affordable, and playable right out of the box. Excellent ukulele to start on, not a cheaply made "starter" instrument, but rather one she will be happy to keep playing as her skill level develops. Excellent tone. Holds its tuning. Looks great hanging on the wall with the family's guitars and mandolins when it's not being played. Included gig bag is nothing fancy, but it does the job. Highly satisfied all the way around.

It is a lovely ukulele. Be aware that the tattoo design color is really a mid brown and not black as it looks in the pictures. As other reviews have said, the wood seems a bit thin and light and so possibly a bit fragile. This concert size has a lovely sound and is big enough to show off the complexity of the design to advantage. The Aquila strings are fine and the tone is very good, no twanging or buzzing. I am not an expert on the sound, but this one is mellow and melodic. The tuning keys are white plastic "mother of pearl", which is a nice touch to match the "shark tooth" insets. I think this beauty will be a favorite for many years. All ukuleles can go out of tune easily until frequently retuned and used so the strings stretch, and then they still need tuning, so if you touch it, tune it! Very satisfied. I did order the Amazon cover box but it came without it in the Luna ukulele box! This could be a problem if it sat in lobbies or doorsteps... tempting.

First ukulele, no prior stringed instrument experience. I purchased this uke after playing with my wife's Luna Mo'o concert ukulele, which seemed well built, and had a nice sound. I opted for the electric/acoustic to show our kids additional options if they continued to play. (i.e. fun with an amp and effects). I really like that it is a darker finish than the Mo'o. It also has the scalloped top, not in the current Amazon pics. Check Luna's site. This particular uke seems buzzy, compared to my wife's Luna Mo'o. Also unlike my wife's Mo'o, there's a visible seam on the bottom of my uke, smooth, but visible. I am not sure if this seam is necessary for the addition of electrics. The ukulele came with batteries for the internal pre-amp, but there was no manual on how to use it. I can figure out what Volume, Pres., and Bass are, I don't know what the indicator for the batteries means. I'll assume that a red light is good, and no red light is bad. But, should I look for a green light for good? I'll take it to a guitar store to make sure the pre-amp works.Overall: Satisfied for my level. Perhaps there's some QA issues at Luna, as the Mo'o was nearly perfect, this one not so much.

This is my first ukulele, and I love it. I like that it's a little bigger than a soprano ukulele - those ones just seemed to small for my hands. The etched design on it adds such a nice touch, and makes it feel more special. It came with Aquila strings, which is awesome, because everyone was saying I would need to replace the cheap strings on my new ukulele with Aquila strings - so that added a nice cost savings. The gig bag is nicer than I thought it would be based on other people's reviews. It's not a heavy duty bag, but it's great for just protecting the instrument from dust and my little kids fingers - and that's all I really need a bag for. I think this was such a great deal, with the strings and the gig bag included, along with the etched design on it. I don't know a lot about ukulele's, this is my first time owning one, but I think it's great for a beginner. It's been so fun to learn how to play it, and I think it has a great sound!6/20/2013 UpdateI wanted to update this and say that I haven't had any problems with the tuning heads. The top review on this ukulele lists the tuning heads as a con, so I wanted to address this. I only have to tune my ukulele every other month or so. It stays in tune really well and for a really long time.
