I built a free-standing 'studio' that I insulated, so needed to keep it above freezing in winter to prevent mold. I chose to use a very efficient wall mounted panel convection heater for that purpose, like the one I purchased at a home show about 12 years ago (which I use in a long unheated hallway, but formerly used in a bedroom). The one from the home show came with this Lux thermostat and it's been great, so I wanted one for the panel in the studio. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the lowest temperature setting is 45 degrees fahrenheit. I would like to be able to set it a bit lower than that when I'm not using the space. Possibly 45 degrees is in fact the lowest setting to prevent mold though?? I do love the thermostat though. It's nice to be able to program it while not plugged in, and it's very easy to raise and lower the temperature or put it on hold with the touch of one button. A great little unit!

There is a very specific user for this thermostat, someone who wants to finely control space heating and/or cooling. This will not replace a home thermostat. I look at it more as modular enhancing a "dumb" space heater; any unit that does not have digital controls for temperature and timer. This thermostat has all the same functionality of a basic programmable 5+2 wall thermostat made to work with a 110V plug; any window AC or space heater with mechanical switches is immediately upgraded with programmable capabilities.I have yet to find a spaceheater that does it all; good heat output, accurate thermostat, and a set it and forget it timer that turns on/off the heater at set times. Something as simple as turn the space heater on and maintain an accurate 72 F from 10 PM to 8 AM every day is basically not achievable. The DeLonghi oil radiators come close with their 24hr timers but the thermostat is not something I would call accurate; it's rather hopeless constant fiddling if your goal is to maintain a specific set temp.Other fan based space heaters may have a digital thermostat but they won't have a daily timer.I've thought about setting up a Z wave based system with a temp sensor in the room connected to a smart plug but it would actually be a costly and complicated way; invoke timer settings to come on at specific time, some kind of IFTT script to read the temp and cycle on/off the heater.Instead, I bought this wall thermostat. It has a timer and specific temp set capability, the connected heater does the rest. The little antenna reads the temp and the program cycles power on/off as needed to hit the programmed temp, just like your wall thermostat. You can also program the temperature "float" you want to allow from 1 to 9 degrees with 1 being the strictest adherence to target temp and 9 being very loose. If 72 is the target temp; at "1" the heater will be given power once thermostat reads 71 in the room and at "9" it wouldn't come on until room temp drops to 63.I have one in use with a delonghi oil heater and it keeps the temp at a constant 72 no matter the weather outside, something I couldn't do with the built in bi metal "thermostat". I have another working in tandem with a super basic Lo/Hi fan based heater and again it's able to keep very stable temps in the room.I'm amazed no one else has something like this on the market.Jan 2018 updateI have three of these units running in the house now and still very happy with them. I've also since jumped on the Samsung Smarththings platform and there are custom smart apps that can replicate the function of this thermostat but the limiting factor is the temp sensor; most door or window devices only provide a temp readout sporadically every 5 or 10 min and sometimes longer so your temperature swings will be much wider. If they ever make a smart plug with a temp reader built in, then the program and schedule could run on the app side but as of 2018 this is still the best solution I can find to automate temp control room by room.

This little device works great. The external temperature sensor is pretty accurate and can sense the temperature of the room very well....give or take a degrees. It has cut down the cost of my heating bill a lot. It's easy to program if you follow the instructions, and once you set it, you can just forget it and just let it do its job. You can switch the display from Celsius to Fahrenheit easily. A great buy considering the fact that you will save a lot of money in the long run.

Product arrived quickly and works exactly as advertised. Extremely versatile and programmable in a multitude of ways, including a nifty "temp offset" feature which allows you to compensate for slight differences in temp readings between this thermostat and another in your home that you may want to match up to.We are using this product to control a 1-yr old Danby Premiere 13000 BTU portable air conditioner whose built-in thermostat stopped functioning.Amazing way to keep a $500, slightly broken, just out of warranty air conditioner working like new!One word of caution: this device cuts the power completely to the device that's plugged into it, once the set cut-off temperature is reached. Some AC units may NOT come back on once this thermostat restores power. If you have any doubts, set your AC (or whatever device you want to use this with) to on, then pull the power cord from the wall. Wait about 3 mins, then plug it back in. If it comes back on and retains whatever settings you had programmed in, then you're in the clear - this product will work for you.

*FOR A DETAILED EXPLANATION OF THE SWING ADJUSTMENT, READ ON! =)*Given the very high ratings that other purchasers have given it, I purchased this unit with confidence... so I was a bit surprised at my apparent difficulty to get it to work the way I wanted it to right out of the package. This unit's purpose is to regulate a temperature range for an older window AC unit. Previously, I've had this AC on a timer: on for an hour or so, then off for a bit more than an hour, etc. This house is very well insulated, but no matter how much insulation a house might have, 100+ daily heat indexes is going to leech through your walls and throw off a wall/outlet mounted thermostat quite a bit.My first issue was the disparity of temperatures from where the WIN100 was in it's wall outlet (which abuts an east facing outside wall, not an internal wall), and the actual temperature of the rest of the room, which varied depending on the temperature outside. Leaving it like this was forcing my window AC to run when the rest of the room was plenty cool enough, because the thermostat was reading that it was much warmer because of the outdoor heat. So, I had to get a 3' appliance (eg: heavy duty) cord to move the WIN100 away from that hot wall. This seemed to remedy the wide variation of actual room temp and what the WIN100 was registering. Another reviewer remedied this problem by soldering on an extension to the temperature sensor. Not wanting to "butcher" the unit, or possibly affect any warranty, I figured a short extension cord would work just fine. The next bit of confusion regarded my misunderstanding of the swing adjustment option. The instructions that came with the unit are quite thorough, but I missed the tip where it refers to the swing adjustment number not as "DEGREES" but as a "VALUE." As explained by the outstanding support person that called me back remedy my frustration, when you go to change the swing adjustment, you are changing it by QUARTER of a degree, not an entire degree. So when I thought I was making a 5 degree swing adjustment, it was only making a 1.25 degree adjustment, to my previous aggravation, causing my AC unit to cycle on and off more than I wanted it to. Now I've got it up to a value of 9 (the WIN100's highest), which gives me a 2.25 degree swing, not a huge change, but much more amenable to my electric bill. It's only been a couple of days now since I've had this thermostat, and now that I believe I'm over the major hurdles, I'm assured that it will work nicely. And as I've read in a couple of other reviews, Lux support/service is truly exceptional; they will work quickly and thoroughly to help customers with their difficulty, as they did me! This was truly a superb buy.*UPDATE 08/19/11* - After a month of owning this unit, I've tweaked it to where it works exactly as I want it to, and I'm as pleased as the day I bought it! Using the 3' extension cord, it sits on the kitchen table edge (we have a small kitchen) so we can see the display and can adjust the temp as we like. Truly indispensable now for our AC needs!
