This mic has never worked from the day it came out the box. I had it for almost a year now, I got it for a cheap backup option, but it didn't work when i tested it out the box or months later when I needed if for a gig....its buried under a pile of junk right now. You can definitely find a better cheap option.

I've had this shotgun mic for seven years now. As of today it finally died. However in its time of use, it has helped me in all scenerios of film: bts, voice over, narration, sound mixing, and so much more. In all weather conditions, indoor & outdoor conditions, quiet & loud environments, and power issues. You can't go wrong with this mic. But depending on your preferences and experience this may not be the mic for you. However if you're starting out this mic will do it all. Money is not an issue when it comes to tell a story, everything comes when need to, this mic came to me when I needed it. So keep this in your wishlist, your checkout, or looking to purchase - get this mic. Thank you LyxPro.

I bought this mic and it didn't work.I would plug it into my Behringer mixer and use it with phantom power, but it would barely pick up any sound even when I maxed out the gain. I tried with the battery. Same thing. I tried placing the mic 1 ft away from my face still no sound. I tried putting it right up to my mouth, but still no sound. I emailed the company, but no response. Save yourself the hassle and don't buy this mic. I'm going to try and return it.

Well made. Shipping was very slow, but they told me that up front, so I expected that. However, the pickup pattern does not fit my idea of a 'shotgun' mic. Pickup at 90 degrees off axis is little different from straight on, and 'reach' of the device is no better than any other microphone I have. Tried to return it, but Amazon said to contact seller for return authorization. After 3 tries, I still didn't hear back from them, even though their mail 'bot' said a support ticket had been opened. Amazon made good on the purchase and gave me a refund anyway. Good for Amazon. Bad for seller.

There's never much sense in comparing apples with oranges, but my point of reference for a 'shotgun' microphone is the Sennheiser MKH-416 which I unfortunately sold years ago. I found this microphone surprisingly good considering its price. I might well not have bought it if Amazon had not had a 'no question' returns policy. i can't remember what this microphone cost but it wasn't much - around $30 if I recall, maybe less, but it is certainly good value for the money. // I just remembered my one 'quibble': the mike holder. It is so tight that it's impossible to use. I had to literally cut some plastic off each side to get the mike to fit. The other thing is that the holder is designed to go on a mike stand with a very large thread - maybe 5/8" or so. I don't even know if they still make mike stands with a thread that wide. To fit it on a stand with a normal thread size - which I think is 3/8" you will need to buy an adapter. This should have been supplied.I do have one (or two) gripes. As you an see in the photograph, it comes with an attachment to mount it on a tripod (or music stand, etc.) but the 3/4 holder - the gadget which clamps around the microphone barrel - is too small. The idea, obviously, of it being a non-adjustable clamp, is the clenching power of the plastic will be enough to hold the mike - and I'm certain it would have been if I could have gotten it on. I tried for twenty minutes or so and it was no go.I do like the way the phantom power is set up. You can either insert a battery in the barrel (so that you don't need phantom power from the machine or mixer you're using or...you can switch off that battery if you do have phantom power available.

..and you get what you pay for. That isn't to say that it's a bad mic. In fact, it's decent for the price. The sound is a bit muffled even with the high pass filter on. It picks up more noise than other shotgun mics I've used (some of that is the self noise, mind you). The fact of the matter is, if you're on a budget and this is the only mic like this you can afford, it will work. You just have to spend a lot of time in post in order to get it to sound as good as some of the more expensive "cheaper" shotguns.CONS:The red light when you turn the mic on only comes on for a second, then it goes out. The mic is still working, but you can't see the light. You would forget to turn it off because of this at some point and burn out a battery. Always make sure you take extra batteries and ensure that you turn off the mic before you put it away. The mic clip doesn't come with a 5/8" to 3/8" mic stand adapter. So, you will need to have your own.The mic clip is cheap and flimsy and frankly I don't want to use the one that came with it for fear it'll break.Could be much more directional, like true shotgun mics.PROS:Better than the internal mic on my mirrorless cameraIt's 23 US dollars, which is pretty cheap.Feels decently put together, though not as sturdy as other shotguns I've used.

Great mic, especially for the price. I've used this in noisy environments, both indoors and outdoors. It minimizes a lot of the background noise and is still sensitive enough in the front to give crisp clear audio. I've run this directly to my camera with an XLR cable, as well as used it with a Saramonic wireless transmitter on a handheld boom outdoors, and it did great. I couldn't have gotten the audio I needed without it.I'm on a tight budget so I'm very picky and research every product I buy, to make sure it gives the best value and performance that I can attain. I think it is as good as some of the more expensive mics and one that you shouldn't pass up.

This being my first shotgun mic, I had no idea i would need an external audio recorder to supply power to the mic and get sound that didnt sound like my camera mic. I tried adding a battery amd it did nothing. The light came on for a second then went off. I finally got a zoom h4n to plug the mic into and hopefully give my some good sound quality but alas the sound was disapointing. The microphone litteratly picks up every little noise around it. (Even from the sides). I did a silence test and all I could hear was buzzing and low frequency noise (I even had the low cut/high pass filter on). I would not recomend this microphone for recording any audio. However it does a good job for recording sound effects. I recorded quite a few sound effects for a short scene I filmed and they sounded great! Thats why this mic gets an extra star.
