I have this beast hooked to the Rodecaster Duo, with a FetHead Germanium, a Rode Windshield and a Mogami Gold XLR - absolute beast. Studio like sound.Great mic! No wonder why audio engineers are comparing this 150 $ mic to the classic Electro Voice RE20 (which is 600 $). Crazy good!

This microphone is truly amazing! I own an RE20 mic which is my crown jewel Dynamic mic for my podcast and all work related but I wanted a backup because it is ALWAYS smart to have another mic ready to go or even ready for a mobile situation where I may need to take the show on the road. I saw just a couple of reviews on the YTubes and it sounded wonderful.I took a gamble and purchased this mic and was AMAZED right after the first test with no EQ added and just a 50% gain (or 12 O'Clock) on the Focusrite Solo. It is a joy to use and now has a permanent home in my mic stable. I honestly cannot stress enough how beautifully balanced sounding this mic is and how nice on the ears it is in the raw. It does respond well to any EQ you throw at it if you just feel the need to do that or that is your thing. The mic is HEAVY and NOT made of plastic! You will need a strong Boom Arm if you want to mount it that way. This also leads me to the stand that comes with the mic. THANK YOU MACKIE!!! The stand is wonderful too and well made AND it adjusts with a squeeze on the lever! Amazingly enough, Mackie seems to understand that a mic stand should allow the mic to actually reach the height of your mouth!!! Go figure! I mean they even provide a stand that isn't garbage unlike almost 90% of the other manufacturers. If you have a deeper voice and want a mic that embraces that but also adds some brightness and clarity to balance it out in perfect harmony, this is your mic. Likewise, if you have a bright voice or higher voice, this mic knows how to embrace that while introducing some depth and bass to really round it off. This mic could easily sell for $250 - $300 but I'm thrilled that it is priced sub $150.UPDATE:3.1.2024- I have since scaled way back with my mic stable and now just own four. Of course my RE20 and RE27 stay front and center and then I have the TechZone Stellar X2 Vintage and yes,...the Mackie EM99B! These are my four "Go To" Mics. I need NOTHING else!

I have combined this microphone with a Focusrite Solo and have been getting really good sound out of it. It picks up everything! I was recording my computer screen and using the microphone and you could hear the clicks on my mouse. I love that it can pick up so much. Now when my dog barks in the other room, that’s not so helpful. But basically, I was looking for a microphone that could pick up the details, so this is perfect for me!

It's okay sounding mic, a bit sibilant. Unnecessarily too chunky.

I think what you think of this mic ultimately will come down to your needs and your style of sound. To start off, the build quality is great, its an all metal body with a very stylish look. Even better it includes just about everything you can need to start recording right away. There is a windscreen that does a good job at dealing with plosives, a quality mic stand and also a cool looking green xlr cable. You have everything you need all for 100 dollars minus the interface.Performance wise this is a cardioid microphone with a unidirectional polar pattern. The mic is not very gain hungry and audio comes across clear and crisp. I'm someone who adores bright presence and treble so I really enjoy the sound of the EM-99b, I think if you are doing any dialogue work or podcasting this is a great mic for that. At the same time if you don't want a top heavy mic maybe this isn't the right mic for you.Overall, I think at this price range, you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal. Especially if you are someone who is just trying to start using dynamic mics, the included items are a huge plus and value.
