If you need a easy way to switch between 4 and 8 way...hard to beat. Look online, you'll see some videos. The tangs on the rotational mechanism might need to be tweaked/filed as when rotating sometimes it'll hand up on the switches. It's hard to explain but once its in your hand you will see it contacting the switch. File it to a point a bit, bend it inwards, and its fine. I write on the knob so I can tell what mode I am in.Being magnetic vs spring it definitely has a different feel/sound to it. But it works. For casual use I think this offers great flexibility. If you are more hardcore and prefer the arcade feel, I can see this stick not being your cup of tea.

First, I bought a 412 in 1 game arcade. Some games are 4-way, & some are 8-way. The arcade was installed with an 8-way and the experience of playing certain games was horrible at best. So I bought this. It was great until in the middle of game play the joystick stopped functioning. Needless to say, I returned it. I'd strongly think again before buying this. Strictly my opinion.

For 4 way games, it's incredible. Never had a better joystick. Would have given 5 stars if it was not about connecting to the microswitches. There are 2 kind of microswitches and you need to unscrew 1 to know which type it is. When I tried to re-screw the microswitch, the screw was stripped by the first unscrewing. Had to use another to make it work. Apart from this, this joystick is the best the money can get you. And you can set it up to 8 way on the fly so you don't need to have 2 different joysticks.

I built an arcade console and quickly realized that the 8-way sticks are terrible with retro games, such as pac man and dig dug. Pay close attention when you take these apart for installation! It's too easy to reassemble them incorrectly and they will NOT work if you do that. The metal U-shaped piece specifically is directional. It's a bit fiddling to find the starting point at which the conversion process begins so it might sometimes take like 15 seconds or so to switch one. Other times it's easier to find the point. For occasional changing, it's not a problem and they greatly improve game play. Good construction. Quality builds. Very happy with them.

A must for all MAME cabinets. Switchability from 4 to 8 way topside of the panel is a WIN. Fantastic quality.

Only one I could find that goes from 4-8 without going beneath the panel. Essential for switching to classic games on a MAME machine
