While grazing, cows eat everything from grass and dirt to nails, staples and bits of bailing wire (referred to as tramp iron). Tramp iron tends to lodge in the honeycombed walls of the reticulum, threatening the surrounding vital organs and causing irritation and inflammation. The cow loses her appetite and decreases milk output (dairy cows), or her ability to gain weight (feeder stock). Cow magnets help prevent this damage by attracting and holding stray metal from the folds and crevices of the rumen and reticulum. One magnet works for the life of the cow!

These are ok. One broke the second day my son had them, and it was a minor bump that broke them.

I'm not using these for cattle. I am actually using them to sift out metal (nails, staples etc) from wood ash coming from my woodstove. They work just like they work in a cow's rumen: find metallic object, grab it, keep it away from sensitive tissues-in this case, my hands, and critters feet in the gardens.

It is compact, powerful and fits perfectly into my back scratcher. Sounds crazy to say that, but I use the magnet for energy work, and need to be able to reach my shoulder blades with it. The only reason it doesn't get five stars is that one of them was broken on receipt and had to be returned. But, with Amazon returns are so easy that it was "no big".

We got these magnets for a science fair project and right after opening the box my son was playing with them and one broke in half. He didn’t drop or throw it, it just broke when he was having them magnetize together. They got the job done, but I wish I would have realized how fragile they are.

I needed to find the screws behind my drywall in order to locate the studs in my wall. I bought this magnet in hopes to find them. They did OK locating the screws but would not support their own weight on the wall like a normal magnetic stud finder does. Might be fun for crafts but not for anything or you need a super strong magnet. The ends were barely magnetic it all.

DO NOT BUY!!! My gentle 7 year-old was playing with them, and one broke within a minute. Living in Montana, I thought maybe it just broke because it was cold (about 32 degrees) when delivered, so I had her wait over an hour for them to come up to room temperature. The temperature was not a factor. Within another minute of playing with them after they had reached room temperature, another one broke. I did not let her play with the last ones, due to sharp edges caused by the breaking. THESE MAGNETS ARE A SAFETY HAZARD!!!!I will definitely be returning this product. Amazon usually does a good job of selecting products for their site, however, this is an oversight which needs to be remedied IMMEDIATELY.
