Very good glass, light weight, and great performance. This spotter is awesome for the price point and they nailed it with features. Will definitely be buying more from Maven in the future.

I am a birder, and this scope performs wonderfully. Crystal clear from edge-to-edge, bright colors. The focus and magnification were a little stiff initially, but worked themselves out over time. There are two drawbacks - I wish the lens caps were attached to the scope, as they can be lost easily, and at this price point, I would expect it to come with a case or a sleeve.

Wow, pretty expensive but well worth the money for image clarity and focal range. Body seems solid and durable for long life dependability.

Best spotting scope I have owned. Excellent edge to edge clarity for the price. Very bright and yet compact. I have clearly spotted deer laying down in shadows on a ridge over 1000 yards away

Great scope and compared to other manufactures I kept the Maven. It was clear, bright and the color on objects 800 yards out to 2 miles was excellent. I love the fact it is lighter and shorter so it fits in my pack for long range elk viewing. No problem seeing 30 caliber bullet holes at 500 yards. Will try it at 750 next time out. Maven is a game changer.

So already had what I would consider a very good Vortex HD Viper spotting scope, which I can't enough about from an image perspective, the one minus of the Vortex was the weight, its an anchor. When compared side by side to the Maven, the edge to edge clarity and magnification are very close. Color on the Vortex is a tad better but not enough to account for the additional 17 oz in weight especially when hunting. If I'm picking apart a hillside all day long the Maven is definitely up to the task and even if its a good 5-6 miles out, I'll be able to judge game accurately. Beyond that, neither one of these is going to do that but in all honesty, I probably wouldn't make it to that canyon anyway.

I currently own a Vortex Viper HD 20-60x85 which is a great spotting scope, but it's heavy, long, and not ideal for backcountry treks. My goal was to find a mid-range spotter (30x realm) with great clarity, light weight, and less than $1,000. Of all the manufacturers and models out there, I was limited to the Athlon Ares and Maven CS.1. Both met my price requirement (both about $800 list price) and specs are near identical (e.g. 2.5 - 3.0 lbs, 15-45 magnification). Both performed very close, so you can't go wrong with either. While I was disappointed the Maven didn't include a neoprene skin and the mag adjust was stiff, it excelled in picture clarity, even on a sign 4 miles away.I would highly recommend this scope.

Very sharp, bright image in a compact design. Controls operate flawlessly. The plastic protective lens caps are garbage; a better system is needed.I wish that this spotting scope included a sun/rain shade; an integral shade would be preferred.
