Standard Maxxis Maxxcross IT (Intermediate terrain) makes for a much more comfortable ride in rough terrain. Sidewalls have a little give. Desert version front and back are "rock hard". PS :never got a flat with either one. so just use a good quality 3 or 4 mil tube (or a mousse or tubeless, if you want to spend the extra money).

This tread seems to work well for my terrain. Desert, sand, rocks, ruts, hard pack. Corners well and holds in loose sand and rocks.
