When replacing an old set of alignment pins, I chose Mayhew because they stand for high quality tools and unrivaled Customer Service. Period. No games. Just good. well made, reliable tools. I've owned Mayhew tools for years and have never had even one complaint. These alignment Punches (I've always heard them called them alignment Pins) are good for more than just aligning components before bolting or welding them together. I use them for just about anything except driving parts or fasteners or components. However they did do a good job driving a couple bearing races in a pinch, when on a roadside service call). They are hardened and so could shatter if you go a little too "Gonzo" on them. But they are tough and high quality and work well for many tasks beyond alignment. And as a BONUS---you gotta see the roll-up case they come in! Holy Smokes that's one Skookum piece of kit! I have my eye on a Mayhew punch and chisel set, and a set of their brass drift punches next . . .

I tried to find alignment punches at virtually every well known hardware supplier in Springfield, MO without success, except for one. That one specializes in low quality bargain junk that I chose to avoid. The Mayhew punch set was needed with little leadtime, and Amazon had them here on with 2 days of comfort. These punches are of excellent quality - I needed to use them to move a heavy gear reduction motor resting on a steel plate so that the holes through the plate would mate up with holes in the motor body. This assembly is housed in a cage that I used as a fulcrum for moving the motor around, and the tips of the punches were used to center the pairs of holes. I thought that achieving alignment was going to take an hour or so, but I had it done in 15 minutes making me very happy. The only negative thing is that the roll pouch for the punches did not survive shipping. It was a plastic fabric, but it should have been a heavy canvas.
