Simply replace one of the Original Equipment bolts above the propeller with a McGard locking bolt. Once installed, lower unit lock bolt offers 24 hour protection. Constructed of through-hardened stainless steel for maximum security. A free-spinning collar will turn if attacked by gripping tools without loosening the lock to avoid costly theft. For maximum security, use the Yamaha lower unit lock bolt in conjunction with a McGard outboard motor lock. This product may contain globally sourced materials/components.

This product does not fit the Yamaha 150 lower unit. They do not make a bolt according to your company that will fit the lower unit as a lock.

This item will not fit the F150XB lower unit as it has a 5" extension tube. Nothing on the front of the package to tell the buyer this. Once you have the product there is a small notation on the back marked with a +sign that says "Except F150 shaft of course by then most customers have already opened the package. I even called McGard and was told it fit the F150 - with no mention by them that it does not fit the XB. Not impressed. I have a fabricator that will fix this but it will cost dearly. I found out too late there is another MFG that makes a 2 bolt set that will accommodate those that own XB lower units.

I can personally say these locks work. I recently purchased a boat with this lock on it. Unfortunately the previous owner lost the key. I did finally get the lock off but it took about an hour and a half of chiseling away at this thing until I finally got to the point where I could put a set of vice grips on it and turn it off. Low life thief's wont put all that effort in...they'llmove on to an easier target.

I have a 2012 Yamaha F115X outboard. The picture on the product shows the locking bolt being inserted on the bottom side of the anti-cavitation plate behind the zinc fin. On my outboard there is no obvious hole to put the bolt in. It turns out that you have to remove the zinc and then you have access to the bolt. It fit fine and I’m satisfied with it. It is excellent quality. Sure it’s pricy but it’s for a boat! There’s nothing cheap bout having a boat.

Have a 2016 Yamaha F115LB. 20" shaft. Despite packaging saying otherwise the bolt in the kit I got was about 5/8 an inch too long to snug the anode fin up tight. Called McGard Marine tech support and they admitted the bolt is too long and they know about it. Said they had no plans to correct it. So they're knowingly selling a bolt too long. You can cut the bolt end off and add spacers along with the lock washer to match the short bolt from Yamaha as a fix BUT THIS VOIDS WARRANTY they told me. So why not sell the kit with the right bolt to begin with?

The McGard Lower Unit Lock Set is the same as sold by Yamaha. Looks like quality stainless steel through out. Once installed it can be left on the engine permanently. Boat may be operated without any additional drag or interference because this bolt is installed within the lower unit housing. A little more effort to install than other external solutions but not complicated or difficult.
