PUNCH NEEDLE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1.Q: I'm just scared I'll mess up.
A: First of all it's OK to be scared or nervous, just doing it anyway! The great thing about punch needle is that it's almost impossible to "screw up".
If you don't like the way a section is looking just pull it out and do it again. I've redone sections a dozen times before I liked the look without losing the integrity of the backing fabric.
2.Q: How does punch needle work? Won't all my stitches fall out?
A: A punch needle works by forming continuous loops with yarn into cloth. The tension of the yarn and the cloth is what keeps your project from unraveling.
Unlike traditional embroidery, there are no knots in needle punching.

I ordered the Christmas-theme version of this kit for my daughter who was interested to learn how to punch needle. She used it to make several Christmas-themed coasters and ornaments. She gave them as gifts for family and friends. She used some of the preprinted patterns the kit came with and also made her own patterns. The kit includes everything you need and detailed instructions, including videos that are easy to follow. The materials included are of good quality. This kit makes punch needle embroidery enjoyable and fun at a reasonable price.

This has instructions. Two punch needles and the threaders. The required colors for each pattern. The embroidery hoop with a screw to tighten the tension. Six patterns printed on canvas.It would be a good activity for tweens and teens. As with all crafts, it takes a little while to get the tension right and the feel of the tools. I would think anyone younger that 8 would find this more frustrating than fun. And anyone that is proficient in punch needle embroidery would find this too basic.

My three pre-teen granddaughters made these cute butterflies. They were easy to make. The quality seems good. Everything needed is in the kit. The price was very reasonable.

I haven't done punch embroidery in over 20 years, so I decided to pick up a beginner's kit to try doing it once again. This is a Christmas themed kit that comes with several printed canvases, yarn, an embroidery hoop, and two needles with threaders, as well as instructions and a color guide. It also comes with felt backing to finish the canvases and what I think are glue sticks. (What I think are glue sticks are not labeled, and look smaller in diameter than sticks you use in a standard glue gun. I will probably pick up some fabric glue when it is time for me to finish the canvases.)The punch needles are not of the best quality, and a true beginner might want to pick up a better needle. The included one has too small a handle to use really comfortably. I first was introduced to punch embroidery when I did Therapeutic Rec for people with physical disabilities, and the large handled needles made it so folks with hand issues could still punch. Again, these needles are small and hard to use. As you can see from the photo, the back of the punched project looks much better than the front, which should not be. This needle had too many stitches pull out, which I am not sure was the needle or the canvas itself. There were many holes on the front side that I had to go back and fill in, and too many uneven loops. I found myself having to tighten the yarn too often, which one should not have to do. I also had to trim too many too long loops on the front side. The needle was also not sharp enough to really puncture the canvas well, which I am not sure is the fault of the canvas or the needle. I also had issues with the yarn breaking more than once, which is not a good thing.This is still a nice kit for beginners, with a star deducted because of the not great punch needle. With a better needle, I would give this five stars. It also should come with a pair of trimming scissors. But the clear instructions are a plus, and mean anyone should be able to pick up this craft fairly easily. It is a nice craft to do while watching TV or listening to music or audiobooks. The small size of the projects, as well as the number included, make this a good set to learn this craft with. I just might suggest buying a better needle separately.
