Customer service is awful. These are a joke. Cheap thin plastic junk. Basically right in the garbage. They basically dont allow returns so dont even bother trying.

We have owned our chess set for over a year and it still looks great. We added sand in the base of each piece and even during some pretty intense storms here at the lake they didn't blow away. Our children love playing with the chess set.

I work at an independent school, and finally decided to order a replacement set of large chess pieces for the platform overlooking our rec field. These things are great! Very sturdy and solid construction - much better than the set I'm replacing, which was not from MegaChess. Here's the kicker - this morning, I went to fill the bases with water and assemble the pieces. Turns out one of the bishops and one of the pawns was missing. I messaged the company via the order page here on Amazon, and they replied within minutes! I have the two replacement pieces en route via Fed Ex, should arrive on Friday. Amazing product and amazing customer service. If you're on the fence about this purchase, DO IT! You won't be disappointed.

I set this up in my back yard using 19" pavers white/ dark . I get complements on it all the time.Fun to play on large board. It has withstood 2 winters and 2Summers w/o any fading. (winters are mild here bur summers are brutal.) I put about 3 inches of water in the bottom to keep them from blowing.

This set is great for outdoor play and for engaging others in games of chess. I put two pounds of sand in the base of each piece and that makes them just the right weight. (And the sand stops them from rolling down the street.)All of the pieces have knobs on the top which makes them easy to handle. And each piece is instantly identifiable.I'm glad I bought it!Nitpicks:--The rooks look bland: they could've used more pronounced crenelations around the top.--The chessmen don't come with a chessboard. You can spend a couple hundred dollars on 64 interlocking tiles, but that's got to take forever to assemble and so can't be very portable. Or you can spend $60 on a somewhat flimsy nylon mat that looks wrinkly and thin. What I did was buy a thick canvas dropcloth and paint black squares on it, and then spray it with waterproofing. It takes a little persistence to draw straight lines on the cloth (I used a high-quality 8-foot board I had lying around, and a carpenter's square), but once you do that the painting is straightforward. So far my painted canvas is working great!--Buying an extra queen: on Amazon an extra queen costs $59--buying it direct from Megachess is significantly cheaper. I only bought one, a white queen that I'll paint black bands on, so it can be used for both sides. (Alternatively, they have red queens.)--I had been using the shipping boxes for storing the pieces, but they're quickly succumbing to use. I've looked for some mesh bags as replacements, but the one I bought on Amazon was a little tight. (Megachess sells a set of 4 bags for $79, which I've ordered. I hope they'll take the extra weight of the sand.)

We ordered this set after having so much fun playing "large chess" on vacation. The item arrived nearly a week earlier than the shipping estimate so that was a nice surprise! The pieces are super easy to assemble and feel like the same quality as the ones we used at our resort. We have them in an area somewhat sheltered from wind so we haven't had to weight them down yet but it would be easy enough to do. We didn't get the chessboard that was available with the set. I wanted something that looked more permanent so we ordered interlocking garage flooring tiles.
