As a coach, having something like this is a big help with the base pegs get filled with dirt. I picked up the name brand tool prior to this past season and it was something I used on occasion and was happy to have. So i picked up these for some other coaches. I compared these to the one that I own.- The overall width of the metal insert is slightly narrower than the name brand model that I have. This could potentially be an issue given that it will not fill the width of the base pegs (at least those used by our league) and could result in some dirt and cinders to fall around the tool. I don't know how much of an issue this may be, but I can say that it's the thing I'm most aware of.- The tool overall is about 2 inches shorter. I don't think this will have any impacts on how it's used.- The angle of the handle from the metal is more of a right angle on this model and while that's not a likely issue, it does mean that you might have to hold your hand at a different angle when using it. Again - this should be manageable.Overall, these seem close enough, but I don't know if that width will be a problem. I will update as they are used if there is something significant to communicate.

I volunteer to coach 8u softball and just started fall ball recently. I wish I had known a tool like this existed a long time ago. I was using a pocket knife for a long time and felt guilty about it every time. Second base on out field gets very packed in and sometimes even the plug is hard to find. This tool worked beautifully! Absolutely wonderful to use and the only part that doesn't feel overbuilt for it's purpose is the grip. I expect this will last a while.

As a 12u coach, you know that field quality varies... a lot... and if there's been any in climate weather lately, finding the base-plug and pulling it up can be a chore. I've used screw drives and knives and trowels... they all work in a pinch, but have a purpose built tool is nice. These are well made, thin tools for digging that thing up. Works well, well priced, happy coach.

These were more narrow, and smaller than the ones for our bases. they will work, but are going to be a little less handy. They are heavy duty, but not as wide as they look in the photo. I think there are some other brands of posts that these may work in, not the Rawlings we use.

This base dig out tool work exactly as expected and I highly recommend them for anyone looking for some dig out tools for their local fields. These are the right length spade wise and allow for getting the dirt out for extra long stem bases. The edge is pretty sharp and it can certainly do a good job of digging out some harder dirt if needed. It's also sharp enough that it could rip though a nylon bag if the right pressure was applied.

These tools work well. They are good strong quality and I appreciate that it comes with two. This is a must have tool for coaches. Definitely a good value.
