MESTEK ST06 is an electrical receptacle tester that tests the wiring conditions at an electrical outlet and inspects GFCI devices. The color LCD displays the voltage, the time required to trip a GFCI device, identifies SEVEN common wiring problems, open ground,open neutral, reversed hot/ground,reversed hot/neutral, wired correctly, open hot, dual open( neutral & ground) . Press the TEST button will generate 6mA~9mA leakage current to the ground wire, if the GFCI receptacle trip within about 3 seconds, that means the power leak-proof protection is good.
Low Battery Indicator
When the low battery indicator appears on the LCD, it means that the battery is low,then the batteries need to be changed.
Auto Power Off
After being idle for more than 3 minutes, the instrument will enter automatically in standby mode in order to save power.

Bought this as I test many outlets as part of my job. Thought I would try it out. This unit reads open ground on every outlet. Yet, the other two testers (south wire and sperry say the wiring is correct). Low battery indicator on the screen, even after changing the batteries. Maybe I received a dud, but the bright yellow QC sticker says differently. I will ask for a replacement, and see how it goes.Received a replacement unit. Works as described. Voltage reading, GFCI receptacles test fine, and standard receptacles test well.

I really like this tester--gives a lot of useful information about your electrical outlet. Easy to understand and use. I prefer this design to others--the shape makes it easy to insert and extract after reading. The reading holds for several seconds in case you can't see it when plugged-in. A lot easier to use than my traditional analog and digital meters. The case seems to be sturdy, so I hope it will last quite a while.

I used it shortly after receiving and it worked. About one month later I started testing all receptacle in the house. The unit now reads 30 VAC and shows OPEN NEUTRAL GROUND. Most of the outlets worked fine with things plugged in. I considered loose ground connections at the breaker box. One month later, I shut off all power and tightened all screws in breaker box then tested all receptacles again. Same problem, 30 VAC and shows OPEN NEUTRAL GROUND. I then used a multi-meter to test all receptacles, they read 120V. This produced is unreliable and waited my time. I doubt I will get a replacement.

This plug takes the guest work out. Good for the money. Leave the meter in the drawer.
