Ever get tired of trying to get indexing right? All it takes is for your hangar to be a little out of parallel to your cassette and things will never be quite right. And if you're riding an older bike without a sacrificial hangar, you might, like me, be uncomfortable with putting a lot of force or spending a lot of time adding metal fatigue to your one and only hanger.Microshift did us all a solid and made this one able to work as a friction shifter, and unlike a cheaper friction shifter I tried, this one can cover at least 9 gears without modification.As I'm using the Advent groupset, I did give indexing one more day of fussing. I got really really close to right. Then I switched it to friction and have had less chatter when shifting in the last couple weeks than in a couple days of trying to get indexing dialed in. It just works.I do wish it had a ratchet though. But that's a small shortcoming for smooth shifting and no longer having to worry about shifter/derailleur compatibility.

very nice shifter...al aluminum ...the last shifter you will ever buy...it seems to be that good..the friction option is awesome and it is very comfortable an intuitive to use...just put your thumb on it and you know what gear your in without looking down.

I should have bought the traditional trigger shifter. I don't like how I'm now unable to flip my bike over and cycle through all the gears with this design. Also the top hex bolt needs to be fairly tight to keep fr shifting into a lower gear when decending over rough terrain. This wouldn't be an issue on a road or gravel bike or possibly on very mellow mountain bike trails.It is nice being able to shift up and down multiple gears in one motion. The Advent cassette and rear derailleur is great but I'd prefer the traditional shifter.

I ordered the complete 9 speed set, and upon installation discovered that the shifter has only 5 clicks, limiting my 11-42 cogset to 6 gears. I therefore set the derailleur stop inward towards the wheel to eleminate the 3 smallest gears. No big deal because my m2s ebike is used mostly off road in mountainous terrain.

Works very well! And feels very well made. I love that I can switch between Friction and Indexed. No complaints at all. Well worth the slightly higher price compared to other shifters.Keep in mind this model only works with Advent derailleurs due to the different cable pull and what-not. Great little system all-together. Definitely worth the upgrade if you have standard Deore or less. Not as good as higher end stuff, but for the price you can't beat it.
