The build quality of the connecting rod itself is fine; what you would expect for something this cheap. It functions in a pinch, which is when I needed it. I would like to know whose idea it was to paint the moving parts of this product with a sticky red paint though. Not only does it hinder the movement of the connecting rod, but after about 5 minutes of play, the paint starts to chip off (not really chips, but like balls of sticky paint). This is one of the dumbest design oversights I have ever seen in a drum product. I stripped the paint off and it seems to be working just OK, but luckily its service is no longer required.
