The miops seemed to be what I needed, but, using the lightening mode in hopes of finally capturing strikes, I only received images of leaves in trees. The miops triggered only when wind moved leaves.

I absolutely love shooting photography, especially lighting, I have tried several different strategies to taking lighting photos, and the through those trials, the best one is this device, and all I have to do is set up what I want to do on my phone and turn it on and off. The performance is great

So... You may have noticed that in my picture is a Nikon D7500 and not a Sony. Here's why, the Nikon packages where back ordered. I already had the cable for my Nikon. So... I bought the package that would arrive the fastest regardless of DSLR brand. This is because I knew the unit was DSLR agnostic and it is only the cable provided that associates the package to a specific form factor. It also turned out it was cheaper than the Nikon package to go with an alternative form factor and just switch the cable.Win win!Well this thing is great. The app is intuitive. I very happy with this. This fits perfectly in my Nikon D7500 hot shoe without being any additional hardware! So fantastic! The miops website leaves something to be desired considering the links on the site don't work. But I was able to find the PDF manual after a big of Google searching.

It’s not a flawless device, but it is quite handy to have in your bag. You can use it as a remote trigger…. and everything is controlled through your cell phone. Nightscapes, lightning, time lapse, storm lapse…. There are profiles for all of these situations. You do have to know a bit about your camera. If you are expecting this to do all of the work for you, there will be disappointment.I’ve had a MIOPS trigger for over a year. I’ve had no issues with the body of the device, but the plug-in bit to my Sony a7iii did almost snap off. (It’s a pretty flimsy cord). That’s really my only complaint.Once I figured out the proper settings…It was a game changer for my lightning photos.

The MIOPS Smart+ is a great sensor packed with many features. I tried it with my a7R III on a stormy night to photograph lightning and it didn’t meet my expectations. I know every lightning sensor isn’t 100% accurate, but this one just seemed to miss more than I was expected it to be.I wanted to give this sensor a chance over the leading lighting sensor brand, but after seeing the other brand in action, I was sold and decided to return this one. Beside the lightning feature, the other capabilities of the MIOPS Smart+ are worth the purchase if you use them (timelapse, motion, sound, and laser triggering).

Sound activation was tested, very promising. Didn’t have a chance to test out the lightning triggering yet, instead, I test it with a flash, worked nice. I believe there should be some sensitive adjustments needed in real situation. Laser pointer functionality is great, no complaint so far. I am using a7r2 camera.

I really like this smart trigger. There are literally endless uses for it. That being said, it will take some time to get used to using it and learning all the different features. I really like to use it for setting up long, repetitive shots but it can do so much more. There is a sensor for detecting lightning as well as a laser monitor to trigger the camera to take a photo when the beam from the laser is broken. You can even set up a custom scene where it will trigger an exposure after specific criteria is met. There are a lot of cables that come with this so I suggest using a ziplock to keep them all in one place when not using it. I would be nice if it came with its own case to protect it. There is a trigger cable to connect to the camera, a power cable to charge it and a flash sync cable. I've used the external flash but I haven't had much luck with getting it to sync right with my photo but it does work. I would say a downside for me is that it was usb macro, at a time when everything else seems to be usb micro, so now I have to make sure to travel with an extra cable just to charge it. It does last quite some time and I found you can change it while using it. The hotshoe fits as expected and its nice to be able to have it up and out of the way but still accessible. There is an app that goes with this and its super helpful when setting up. The buttons are nice because sometimes I'm in a hurry but when I can, I'll use the app to configure it or even as a remote trigger. The screen on it does a good job but it is a very simple interface. There is a slot on the back to take the battery out if you need to replace it or want to have an extra battery. If you need support, they are very helpful and email quickly back and forth. If you are looking for tutorials and how tos, there are some videos but it does feel like you're a bit on your own there. Overall, great product and I'm very happy with the purchase.

Great little tool. Used it for fireworks New Years eve and I was impressed with the range and performance. I will use it mainly for summer lighting, so no review of that yet. App works with ease. Very little learning curve to this trigger. It is very well thought out to operate with simplicity. So far so good.
