Product Description

Murray AFCI plug in circuit breakers are intended for use in Murray load centers or meter combinations. The single pole Murray breakers may be used in single or 3-phase load centers and are 120V rated. To ensure the warranty on a Murray panel is not voided, the use of Murray breakers is required. The branch feeder type AFCI is for use in areas enforcing the 2002 and 2005 National Electric Code. Check with your local electrical inspector to confirm. Murray strongly recommends against the use of "used" breakers.  The installation of used breakers in a Murray panel will void the warranty on the panel.  Murray does not sell used breakers and has not approved any 3rd party sellers to do so.

One drawback is the Motor issue someone mentioned before. When you fire up a hair drier or a vacuum cleaner the circuit kicks out but I offset this by having other circuits not protected in the region so motors can be use elsewhere.

California building codes now require this to be put in on all NEW circuits for fire prevention. This is a real problem. Any tool with an armature or electric motor that arc's (leaf blower, shop vac, plug-in drill, skill saw will pop this arc-fault breaker (pain in the rear having to go reset breaker >> it will pop again if you try to run that tool on that circuit. Need to use longer extension cord to get to an older circuit not having this on the circuit). I'm both a retired aerospace engineer (47 years experience) and general contractor (licensed for 23 years with 55 years in construction jobs who just did his own remodeling job. For the safety that this item gives, I think that it is a wasted expense and a pain. It isn't the brand either (Murray makes good equipment) because the Square D ones also does this. I can see electricians getting unpaid call backs and they know how to get around the problem, but probably won't because it can get them reprimanded by the state boards or in trouble with the insurance companies in the unlikely event that a house fire occurs on that circuit.Amazon had the lowest price and since I needed them for electrical sign-off, I had to buy them.
