About this item

  • Accurately measures percentage alcohol in unsweetened distilled beverages
  • Comes in a nearly unbreakable square accordion case
  • A quality instrument up to 20 percent more accurate than the Silver tip hydrometer
  • 12 inch
  • Used for distilled spirits and is NOT for beer and wine

Here's a fine quality made in France glass proof and tralle hydrometer along with a Green base glass Test jar to measure the percentage of alcohol in distilled alcohol. This is used for unsweetened distilled spirits and is not for beer and wine (see my other items, you need the triple scale for your beer, wine, wort, mash or sugar wash!). comes in a square plastic case with Instructions. This scale will determine the direct percentage of alcohol in liquids with a specific gravity less than zero. Just put a sample of unsweetened liquid containing alcohol in the Test jar and float the hydrometer in the liquid. The hydrometer and Test jar are blown glass and fragile so be careful not to let it bounce off the bottom or sides. Spin the hydrometer gently to release any bubbles that are sticking to it. At eye level read the number off the scale where the hydrometer emerges from the liquid. Be sure to read across the two bottom corners of the frown (not at the meniscus (top of the curve).

Very nice clear glass, easy to read HydrometerStands nice on the table. I screwed the plastic base to a wooden platform for greater stability. The glass test jar is easy to remove and clean out/sanitize.The Hydrometer comes in a handy protective sleeve and is clearly marked for all stages of brewing.I definitely recommend this combo for anyone making home brews.Accurate and functional.

First one came broke so they exchanged it at no cost to me. Works fine. Instructions are not enough if you don't have experience in this and never used one. Do your homework and research it. Note the extreme difference in use between measuring things like, rubbing alcohol, sanitizer, sugar, water, beer, wine, liquor and other things when you do your homework on use. I use for rubbing alcohol and hand sanitizer measurements.

I liked everything about this hydrometer alcohol meter. my only complaint and the only reason it didn't get five stars is that it's super super fragile. After using it I was cleaning it with a paper towel and snapped it in two. I was not being very reckless, I thought I was being pretty gentle. I'm going to replace it but look for a sturdier one.

Good product just be careful as the hydrometer glass is EXTREMELY thin. Squeezed it with my fingers a little too hard and it shattered everywhere. Worked well why it was operational though.

I will have to agree with a prior reviewer regarding the base of the 12" glass "test tube". It doesn't fit. The plastic green base is just too small. Thanks to a prior reviewer I taped the base to the glass tube before filling it and was very glad I did as it would not have been stable otherwise considering the height and diameter of the tube. The breadth of the base could be bigger as well to add stability. The hydrometer itself functions as advertised, and comes in a nice protective case with foam inserts, with one side sliding into the other for closure. There do not appear to be stops in it so don't force it shut as it may damage the instrument.
