Glass Water Globe Assembly Instructions & Helpful Tips

How to Insert Rubber Gasket into Globe

How to Insert the Rubber Gasket

  • Add pre-soaked snow/glitter flakes into globe before inserting the gasket.

  • Place globe in your lap or the Styrofoam insert it comes packed in. Position the gasket at top of globe's opening.

  • Gently push down on the gasket working your way around the opening. This may take time to ensure you apply enough pressure to settle the gasket without breaking the glass.

  • Once the gasket is initially seated in the outer groove, start the cycle again. This time pushing the gasket further inward until the edge of the raised part of the gasket is well seated in the globe's neck groove.

  • When properly installed, the gasket should be flush with the bottom edge of the globe.

Helpful Tips for Inserting the Gasket in your Glass Globe

Helpful Tips for Gasket Installation

Tip #1:

Place the gasket in a freezer for a short time (about 1-3 minutes) until it is very cold but NOT frozen.

The cold will shrink the gasket very slightly, making installation easier.

The gasket will expand to normal size as soon as it reaches room temperature.

Tip #2:

Rubbing a little bit of water along the gasket's outer rung may also make inserting the gasket easier.

Remember, the gasket is designed to fit very taut to prevent water leakage. It may take a few tries to get the hang of installing the gasket without compromising the glass globe.

Adding Water to Your Water or Snow Globe

Filling your Globe with Water

  • Add distilled water by pulling a small edge of the gasket away from the neck of the globe. To eliminate any air pockets, fill the globe with water so it is overflowing.

  • Adding a few drops of rubbing alcohol to the water will help prevent bacteria from forming.
  • A small amount of glycerin can be added to the water to slow down drifting. About 1 teaspoon for a 4" globe.

  • Once globe is filled, securely position the gasket back into the globe.

  • It may take several days for the drifting bits to move freely in the globe.

While I haven’t filled it yet, I can tell it’s made well and should last for a long time

Fun but difficult to put together

Used this to preserve a snake, it looks great, the stopper was just super hard to get on. Took me like 15 minutes and it'd pop out sometimes. A month with liquid in it and no leaks, so it works as intended.

I ordered this kit to reconstruct a globe that broke. It had the globe, snow, rubber stopper, and base including a plastic mounting base that allows you to attach the music apparatus (movement) perfectly with predrilled holes to align with the screws needed to stabilize the apparatus. I painted the base black. It came with a light stain on it. I added my own glitter to individualize the globe to my taste. The snow that comes with it is white (no glitter). You will need a waterproof sealant. I used E6000 sealant. You will also need glycerin (if you want to slow down the movement of the snow/glitter), distilled water and the decoration to be glued in the center of the globe. I am very happy with the way this turned out.

This is a beautifully crafted water globe. We used it in an office setting and its got a professional look to it even though we did it ourselves. I highly recco this product for anyone looking to make something special.

The rubber piece on the bottom was very difficult to work with. I used the same sized trinket in all of the globes, but because the rubber piece was so difficult to maneuver I wound up with air bubbles. Plus no matter what adhesive I used I had to be extremely careful not to move the rubber piece too much or it'd pop off. Definitely not for the novice crafter to attempt.

Perfect. Bottom plug fit well. Glass is clear with minimal distortion.

They worked perfectly. I siliconed around the glass and cap and then siliconed it into the base so it wouldn't fall out. The grandparents loved the handmade snowglobes with pictures of the grandkids inside.
