Glass Water Globe Assembly Instructions & Helpful Tips

How to Insert Rubber Gasket into Globe

How to Insert the Rubber Gasket

  • Add pre-soaked snow/glitter flakes into globe before inserting the gasket.

  • Place globe in your lap or the Styrofoam insert it comes packed in. Position the gasket at top of globe's opening.

  • Gently push down on the gasket working your way around the opening. This may take time to ensure you apply enough pressure to settle the gasket without breaking the glass.

  • Once the gasket is initially seated in the outer groove, start the cycle again. This time pushing the gasket further inward until the edge of the raised part of the gasket is well seated in the globe's neck groove.

  • When properly installed, the gasket should be flush with the bottom edge of the globe.

Helpful Tips for Inserting the Gasket in your Glass Globe

Helpful Tips for Gasket Installation

Tip #1:

Place the gasket in a freezer for a short time (about 1-3 minutes) until it is very cold but NOT frozen.

The cold will shrink the gasket very slightly, making installation easier.

The gasket will expand to normal size as soon as it reaches room temperature.

Tip #2:

Rubbing a little bit of water along the gasket's outer rung may also make inserting the gasket easier.

Remember, the gasket is designed to fit very taut to prevent water leakage. It may take a few tries to get the hang of installing the gasket without compromising the glass globe.

Adding Water to Your Water or Snow Globe

Filling your Globe with Water

  • Add distilled water by pulling a small edge of the gasket away from the neck of the globe. To eliminate any air pockets, fill the globe with water so it is overflowing.

  • Adding a few drops of rubbing alcohol to the water will help prevent bacteria from forming.
  • A small amount of glycerin can be added to the water to slow down drifting. About 1 teaspoon for a 4" globe.

  • Once globe is filled, securely position the gasket back into the globe.

  • It may take several days for the drifting bits to move freely in the globe.

I used this to make a snow globe for a first birthday. If was beautiful and easy to use. The first one had a small crack but the company replaced it immediately. No delay in my crafting. I would use them again!

The kit has everything you need-except liquid. Searching some YouTube videos about repairing snow globes will help. The instructions are relatively detailed but seeing similar projects done helps. The quality of the plug and globe is very good and the wooden base is good (Finish is just OK.) Legs on bottom are a bit short so a music winding handle had to be shortened just a bit or small rubber feet can be stuck on the bottom to give extra clearance. These are all minor things for a DIY crafter.

I used them to display littler wore trees I made. I didn't use the water. They were perfect!

Item arrived damaged on the base and globe has a chunk missing from the stem. Does not seal when liquid is put into it
