Unlike a flat grate that lies flush with the surface, the 4 in. Atrium Grate has a raised dome design that blocks leaves, mulch, and other debris near the base, while continuously allowing water to flow through the top. The 4 in. atrium dome drain grate has an open surface area of 21.5 sq. in. and a flow rate of 66 GPM. I used this on my 4" pvc chicken feeder to keep birds from getting in. It still allows me to fill the pvc, without letting large animals in.

Bought 2 of these to keep snakes out of my gutter drains. The only drawback is that while they keep the snakes out, they are clogged with leaves after 3-4 good rains. I tried using duct tape at first to keep the water pressure from pushing them out of the drain. Not a good fix when they have to be cleaned out. My solution was to run a small screw through this cap into the plastic drain pipe and it holds well, is easy to remove to clean out.

The trick to get an accurate measurement is to measure the drain and not the flat cover that was covering the drain. It sounds simple unless someone clueless is doing the measurements. 4" is a pretty standard drain opening. It fits right in and should prevent future flooding because the top of the drain got clogged with large leaves. I wish this was manufactured in a florescent bright color to prevent someone forgetting it's there and trip over it in the dark. I plan to paint it.

These are OK but usually this grates have little bumps that allow them to snap into the corrugated pipe. These just slide in...and back out again. they have nothing to retain them.

. Well, it was not the exact size I needed however, all I had to do was turn it upside down and it worked just as well. Good enough for that’ll do for now sort of jobs, or if you’re not sure what size to get :-)

Arrived very quickly, very light and connected into the existing drain pipe easily and just snug enough there was no need to use adhesive. That way it will be easy to pull out to occasionally remove leaves, debris, etc. Very pleased, and good price.
