It seems like it is well built. a bit heavy for use all day. on the plus side there is no rocks thrown and i'm not paying to replace windows anymore.

Using a line trimmer in my small yard was providing poor results. After watching videos of rotary shears I took the plunge. The shears must be fitted to a power head so I decided to buy a new battery powered line trimmer and swap out the head. Unfortunately the one I picked would not work as the electric motor is at the base. So I bought a different line trimmer that works and swapped out the unit. The rotary shears do a fine job edging and trimming. If you have a large property this is not the product to do everything. It is designed to cut very evenly and quite short. It is designed to ride along the ground on its face. As configured it will cut very short. It is a little tricky to hold it above the ground and cut evenly. The unit is considerably heavier than a line trimmer head so be preparedI have seen replacement rotary shear face plates that will allow you to drag it along the ground but cut less short. I will be buying one. Some line trimmer systems allow the lower half of the tool head to be swapped out for different tools (e.g. swap line trimmer for edger). I am seeking the lower shaft part ONLY to re-fit the original line trimmer head with a swappable tool. This is kind of a “do it yourself” setup but an excellent piece of equipment.

I'd seen a few yard channel reviews on this and had been in the market to upgrade my Ego trimmer so I gave it a try. This head is amazing. It will chew through a lot of stuff but it really doesn't seem to like banding material or steel wire. If you can't power through the clog, you can typically pull a few pieces out and then try to clear it again. The edges look amazing and are very easy to do. I'd been using a manual push edger but it sometimes won't get a clean cut if your grass is too tall over the edge.I've sharpened it once using some reel mower back-lapping paste and that seemed to work well. Can I install grease zerks into those grease holes?

If you looking at this then you are probably a lawn enthusiast and have seen all the videos. It's as good as it looks but my god the thing is noisey

Great for edging especially when you have a cylinder mower, it gives you a nice clean flat cut about 6 to 8 inches away from the edge. You do not get any yellowing of the tip of the blade because of this clean cut.

I’ve had this tool for almost a year and used it in almost every landscaping job. It works great and doesn’t require a lot of maintenance. Here’s the major flaw it is all held together with a single spring clip. Mine fell off or broke mid job with no luck of finding this clip. I figured it would be an easy fix if I just look up the parts online. NO sUCH LUCK!! Contacted the manufacturer and get told they can’t sell me that part but Amazon will warranty it with their approval. Good news except Amazon has no option to warranty or replace it and instead sends me back to the manufacturer. So this entire tool is made useless by an apparent $280 clip because that’s what it’ll cost to get a replacement.

I already had the Stihl RG-KM connected to a KM131R power head. I was curious about the Stens, so I bought one to compare. Short answer: they both work great, but with some tradeoffs.I was going to mount the Stens to a shaft to fit the same Kombi motor, but then I realised that it would fit my FS-311. That gives me a real harness and handlebar grips. Comfy! The 311 has a 28mm shaft, so no spacer sleeve required. It takes the largest spline adapter.Assembly is where I hit my biggest complaint of the Stens: Rather than use a longer cuff with 2 bolts, they opted for a single bolt cuff and a pointed set screw. This will cause permanent damage to the tube. My solution is to use the set screw to mark the tube, then drill a hole for it to pass through. Anti-rotation accomplished, and I can still change the head back to my wide swath poly-blade head when I want to motor through thick weeds. btw that big poly head is great, but I end up looking like I fell into a vat fo wheat grass smoothie. That aside, the Sten cuts great. It is very loud, and draws a fair amount of power. It has counter-rotating blades, but the bottom blade has the most exposed surface to the grass, so it will still lay down some material and miss cutting. A couple of swings cleans it up. Also the spinnig blads will spark if you bump into concrete (like the edge of a driveway). Now the Stihl RG-KM is very different. It oscillates, so nothing gets pushed out of the way. It is quieter, but there is a noticible vibration due to the oscillatory motion. It cuts so smoothly that I have sliced right through the ground under the grass without noticing. It is more expensive than the Stens, but it does come with a shaft. Power demand seems much lower, but I have no way to quantify that. It does spool up faster, and coasts longer. With the Stens, it stops dead as soon as I let off the throttle. The Stihl has a much beefier gearbox, but then there is a lot more going on in there. It is a bit heavier. So, the Stihl costs more, cuts better, uses less power, and comes with a shaft. It is configured for a Kombi engine, but I suspect that it could probably be fitted to a Stihl with a 1" shaft. The Stens is cheaper, and parts are available at a known cost. It is loud and soaks up a lot of power. btw I oil the blades of these units before and after I use them. I suspect that the Stens will quiet down as I use it more. The Stens does recommend sharpening the blades every 10 hours. That will be a pain. My approach will be a spare set of blades so that I can keep a set sharpened. And the Stihl? At the time that I purchesed it blade life and cost were a mystery. I will check with the dealer again. My recommendations: if you have a Kombi motor, go for the Stihl. If you want to adapt to a different system, the Stens is still a great option. Both are a dream to use.Caveat: I hate string trimmers. I use a Badger-head with poly blades for light stuff, and the largest Stihl poly head for big growth. That huge swath really speeds things up. It is faster than my clearing saw for everything but saplings. Both the Stihl and the Stens are recommended by their manufacturers as edgers. Are they nuts? I would only do that if somebody else is paying for the blades.

I installed this on my Makita split shaft line trimmer attachment. I use the 36V power head.Install was easy and straight forward, 5 minutes, you only need a hex wrench. Sleeves are included for multiple shaft diameters and drive shaft patterns. A wrap around cutter guard is also included.Anyway, out to try it, I had heard it was noisy, I didn't find it particularly so... a different sound, but not be really louder that a line trimmer. And cutting... wow... effortless, clean cuts and no stuff being thrown around. Careful on your height control because you can go low with this is that's your thing... This is the way to go if you want superior cut results without getting on your hands and knees and using grass shears to hand trim. This was my first time using a cutter like this and I'm happy with the result. I'll get better with it too I'm sure.Specs say you can use this as an edger, ie. right into the dirt and along walkways, driveways, beds, etc. to get a crispy clean edge but I'm going save this for trimming, I imagine the dirt will full the blades quickly and I like my wheeled edger.Anyways, it's not cheap, but it's cheaper than a Maruyama LB30 or similar, particularly if you already have a trimmer you can install it on.
