What is a Drive Sprocket?

  • Sprockets are rotating parts with teeth that are used in conjunction with a chain to transmit power
  • In order for sprockets and chain to be compatible with each other they must both have the same thickness and pitch.
  • In order for the sprockets and chain to work effectively, all of the sprockets should be on parallel shafts with their corresponding teeth on the same plane.

OEM MPN's: 93834-16100-00,4DN-25445-30-00,94561-62114-00,93834-16100-00,4DN-25445-30-00,94561-6211

Parts of a Sprocket

  • Number of Teeth - The total number of teeth (projections) around the whole circumference of a sprocket
  • Pitch Diameter (PD) - An imaginary circle which is traced by the center of the chain pins when the sprocket rotates while meshed with a chain
  • Pitch - The amount of pitch diameter in inches per tooth. Gears with a larger pitch will have bigger teeth

OEM MPN's: 519-KCS0880K-K001

When to Replace?

  • Check how well the chain meshes with the sprocket teeth. In a healthy chain and sprocket combo, the individual chain rollers align perfectly with the spaces between the sprocket teeth and fit down into those U-shaped grooves evenly
  • Look closely at the sprocket teeth to see if they have become sharp at the tips and/or slightly curled. The teeth on a new sprocket are straight and have a flat or domed shape at the tip, If the teeth are sharp, the sprocket is worn

  • Don't let chain maintenance slip past you, a broken chain will ruin anyone's riding day. Stay on top of your lubrication and cleaning practices
  • Replaces chain immediately if it comes in contact with the battery acid. Clean your chain if it comes in contact with salt water or rock salt and lubricate it after cleaning.
  • Do not use harsh solvents or chemicals such as Benzene to clean your chain. We recommend lubricating your chain at every 300-350 miles with a lubricant specifically designed for your chain.

Drive chain should only be installed by a certified professional. If unsure, please contact the vehicle manufacture or a local dealer.

The sprockets and chain went on fine. The chain is cheaper metal than the OEM by Yamaha but if it last a year I'll be very happy. It has rubber "o-rings" on the links so it should help on the wear I'll see it it goes to pot in a month I'll do a new review 2008 Yamaha Star(Virago) xv 250

It's an okay package deal. The x-rings only lasted a single season but I do ride pretty hard on this little bike of mine so it might be due to that. Though I have maintained it regularly so I dunno. After this I went to a straight metal chain and have had no issues since so up in the on that.

The thing I disliked most about my Virago was the chain was noisy. No matter how much lube was on it, it made more noise than the engine. Replaced it with this chain/sprocket combo, it purrs like a kitten now. Even sounds that I thought were coming from the engine, was the old chain. Easy to swap out and not much in the way of specific instructions needed.

This is my first purchase of an o-ring motorcycle chain, and it's the best chain I've ever bought. Not only is it a better-made chain that I have bought in the past once installed he became a much smoother ride. I would definitely and will purchase another when needed.
