Product Description

The Nicholson file set is an assortment of 6 files in a variety of shapes that have wood handles and coarse (also called bastard) American pattern teeth for non-precision material removal with a rough finish in a range of home or shop uses. Attached wood handles help provide a secure grip. The set comes in a vinyl pouch for storage.

Hand files are used to remove material and smooth and shape workpieces. They have forward-facing cutting teeth and cut when pushed over either a stationary or rotating workpiece. Single-cut teeth are single rows cut diagonally across the width of the file. Double-cut teeth have two sets of rows cut in opposite directions. American pattern files have three coarseness grades. Coarse, also known as bastard cut, is suitable for efficient, heavy material removal where finish is not a concern. Medium, also known as second cut, offers average material removal and finish quality. Fine, also known as smooth cut, provides the smoothest finish. Swiss pattern files have eight coarseness grades, from 00 (coarse), 0 (medium), and 1 to 6 (fine to finest), offering a smoother finish than equivalent American pattern files. For Swiss pattern files the length of the tool is the length of the blade, not counting the tang, which is the pointed end fitted for a handle; for American pattern files the length of the tool is its entire length, including the tang.

Nicholson manufactures hand tools and power tool accessories. The company is headquartered in Sparks, MD.

These file's are perfect for my use. I had an older set of these that over the years I've used them for just about everything, I know my old ones were probably pushing 20 years old and served me well but were starting to get alittle doll. For my money you can't hardly go wrong with Nicholson files they just make a good product

There was a broken file in the set. Had to return to get a new set

I purchased these files to do some finishing work on a small wood project. The files themselves work well but the wooden handles that they are set it do not hold the files well at all. With minimal use 2 of the files are totally stripped out of the handles. There should be some kind is injected molding that hardens to keep the stem of the file securely fitted into the wooden handle.

Received in 24 hours but it was too much speed for my tools. Three of them where already bent and one have cracked because of that... The packaging was good but not the item...

I like these, but they are weirdly not as good as the file in my Swiss Army knife (which I have continued using for just about everything wood-related). I expected the teeth to be a bit more aggressive/sharp than my cheaper, full-sized Tekton multipurpose files, but they are only slightly better. I'm going to keep them around and try to use them more, however, because the various shapes are spot-on for what I need, and I don't want to continue to wear out my Swiss knife file.

Awesome set of files. Their only 4 inch files so beware of that before you buy. I needed a in-between set and these wooden hand are real nice. Not poly coated so your hand won't slip off. Quality files and you get what you pay for.

As good as advertised. Using these to finish up work on pipes and other woodworking projects. Although I wish the files were more securely fastened to the wooden handles, I'm still rating 5 stars because I've had no problems and might want to use rubber grips eventually anyway. Matter of personal choice really. The quality is outstanding, and I can see these lasting for a very long time.

these will help shape wood for small projects. They complement needle files for smaller work and bastard files for larger work. Consequently, they serve the purpose for which I purchased them.

This file set is not worth the high price. When I received the shipment, I noticed that one of the files was not securely attached to the wooden handle and kept popping out and from the looks of it, it is just a matter of time before the other files in the set would have followed suit. I returned the product (to Amazon) and they refunded my money with no questions asked.Stay away from this product. As soon as I returned it, I went over to Sears and bought a much sturdier file set for a few dollars less.
