These work great for preventing those annoying boot scratches on the frame. My advice would be to get them on your new bike before riding it. They will wear with use and need to be replaced after a year or two of riding depending on how much you ride. but, at least the original paint underneath will be saved. If using on an older bike that's already scratched up make sure you remove any rust and repaint first to make sure they stick better.
