Replaced the same type after about 7 years because the ball gets stuck. This one has the same issue

I used this switch to control my led lights in my pantry. Mounted it in the door jamb so it turns on when door is opened and off when door closes. No more forgetting to turn off the light.

Had the same issue another person did where I'm not getting any connection at all until I push the ball in slightly. The design of this isn't very reliable. It has two pins in a V in the middle that are initially supposed to be touching each screw contact on either side, then when the ball is pushed down it interacts with a plunger that pushes the piece of V metal up, which hits a plastic detent on one side, intended to push it away from the contact on that side, only problem is that the screw contact plates move around and the V metal tab bends so if its slightly off you lose the connection all together. You can disassemble it by pushing the ball and plunger out and bending the V tab back but as far as I'm concerned this is not reliable enough of a switch for my needs.

When I first put mine together, I noticed that the ball seemed like it came out a little bit too far to make a connection. I just couldn’t accept that that would be the issue so I kept messing with it. I discovered the metal plates where the screws go, actually were turned in the wrong direction. I think I did that accidentally myself when they fell out. But it could have came that way idk. They have to be in such a way when the ball is depressed the plate is not being touched. It is hard to explain, but I had that same issue and once I got those metal plates in the right spot, it worked perfectly. These are the plates where the screws go. The plates are notched so when the ball is depressed, the internal connector does not touch them.

My mom has an old alarm system from the 1970's that still works, but a door switch quit working. This was an almost exact fit replacement. The only difference was the supplied screws were too small, so I had to use the original. The ball appears to be a chromed metal & the housing is plastic. Her alarm comes on when the door is opened & the ball completes the circuit.

Works fine, but is cheaply made.I received a clearly used item: screw heads marred by tools, "Made In" sticker mostly ripped-off, scratches and other signs of use on the body.
