It's All About the Design and Experience
Founded in 2001, notNeutral was born out of the idea that architecture is more than just a building; it is everything in the designed environment. As the design-child of RIOS, notNeutral was a way for our award-winning transdisciplinary design firm to expand its horizons. We believe that there are many stories to be told in our designs, and we tell them by creating objects that become a part of your daily rituals. From your morning coffee to your evening tea, notNeutral is there. Our belief is that in every individual design there’s a unique experience waiting for you.
Our Approach
Experience
It's all about the experience. We studied the fluid dynamics of coffee during a pour, the ergonomics of grips and handles, and the interplay between the drinker’s nose and the cup’s mouth. As a result, we created, a family of cups with exquisite form and function.
Design
Once the idea for a new product is born (whether through self-generation or consumer demand), we develop its design thinking about four specific criteria: function, inter-object relatability, character, and culture.
Unique
A product’s ability to maintain a unique sense of character and relatability, while functioning well in its role, is paramount when it comes to design. That’s what we at notNeutral strive for—product design that is culturally iconic.
Who is notNeutral?
We are a Los Angeles-based collaborative studio composed of architects, landscape architects, and interior, graphic, and product designers. Our team is small, but mighty! We are an ensemble of creative minds and thought leaders brought together with the common passion to bring you the very best in tabletop products. From architecture to economics to music, our diverse backgrounds contribute to our holistic design process and unique approach to developing iconic products.

The design and color of this 10 oz mug is 5 stars! The design - I like a smaller mug so my coffee stays warm. I'm partial to clean cut designs and the handle on this cup is very comfortable. I have one in Rhubarb Red as well! High quality.

I bought this after seeing a review on a coffee website. The color range is beautiful and I really like the shape of the cup. Unfortunately, it's really heavy even before it's full of coffee.If you're looking for a really sturdy cup that comes in great colors and you don't have arthritis or anything like that, this might be the cup for you.

Super-impressed with this lovely mug. The piece is substantial, high-quality, the finish clean and refined, the color (periwinkle) subtle and lovely. Retains coffee heat impressively. Its weight and comfort matches what I experience when I pick up my cappuccino to savor in my local coffee bar. This is my go-to morning mug, and brings me joy every time I use it.

Well made cup. Yellow color is so nice, exactly as pictured. I bought this specifically for the size (I don’t like large mugs) and the flat top part of the handle where your thumb rests comfortably, and it does. Unfortunately, my fingers were crammed inside the handle (I hold my mugs with all four fingers inside) and it hurt my pinky knuckle so much I had to return. I don’t have large hands at all. Everything else about the mug is wonderful, the weight, the thickness, the way the rim is rounded, etc. I hope they come out with the same thing but a longer handle.

I like how your thumb rests at a nice angle. It's very comfortable to drink from this cup. It's also a very solid cup, you can tell it will last forever.I bought three of them. Money well spent.

I had visited a high end coffee shop a few months ago that used notNeutral cups. I had never seen them before. They had such a good feel to them... a good weight, a super comfortable handle, and a very pleasant feeling to drink from the cup. I took a picture of the brand name so I wouldn't forget.I finally got around to purchasing some for my own home, and I'm so glad I did. I was hesitant because they aren't cheap. But the quality is noticeable in every way. I bought several... some 10-ounce cups and some 16 ounce cups.I am so very pleased with this purchase. I highly recommend notNeutral cups to anyone who wants to enjoy the full experience of a good cup of coffee.
