This is an excellent addition to your landscape lighting especially if you have a Volt landscape lighting transformer. The Tork timer will fit inside the Volt landscape lighting box and plug into the outlet and then plug the cable into the side of the Tork timer. I have it set to come on at sunset and off 30 minutes prior to sunrise. Once you set the timer you never have to set it again as it keeps track of the date/time and knows when sunrise/sunset occurs without the use of a photocell. This is nice especially when your landscape lighting transformer may be hidden by shrubs thus blocking sunlight to a photocell. If electricity goes off the timer keeps track of the date/time with the rechargeable battery inside the unit.

Setup could not be easier. Unfortunately I've got to adjust sunset time about every 7-10 days as it does not maintain a correct interval.

Set-up instructions need to be more detailed. Specifically, the programming instructions should clearly indicate that the “sun and moon” icon must appear in the LCD display screen if the timer is intended to operate “astronomically “.

Be careful this fits your application. This is very thick.

GE must have sold the rights to their programmable sun considering timers as this is a good, and cheaper, replacement.

This is a review by Oscar Jaeger, Lois's husband. Tork discontinued manufacturing the 457Z, the predecessor to this timer. The predecessor was much superior to the 458Z. It was easy to program, while this one is almost impossible to program. I suspect the 457Z was discontinued because its failure rate was too high, but whenever it worked it was a pleasure to use, whereas the 458Z is so annoying I gave up on it and threw it out. Tork should have engineered a more reliable 457Z instead of creating this piece of junk. At this time you can still buy the 457Z, as there is a company that sells them in packages of of 5. If I were you I would do as I have done, and buy a package of 5 before the supply is completely sold out.

Updated review after replacement received from one star to five. This was purchased to replace the mechanical timer in a Kichler landscape transformer. If it had worked, it would have automatically turned on lights at dusk and then off at 10pm after configuring the timer once. It calculates sunset and sunrise after selecting one of three latitudes. However, appears the internal keep-alive battery failed because could not retain the configuration and programming longer than a few seconds without power. Instructions say the programming is held for three months without power. So, got to be one star (for now), and we will see if the replacement works. The replacement does work as stated. You will know you got a defective unit if the display is blank when delivered. The replacement retained programming without power, and does what I needed for a great price. Maybe another update in the future after using this for a while.

Was looking for a replacement for an older timer and found this. Would have given 5 stars but the outlet is on the side and not on the bottom like I needed it. Works well, good price
