Does not fit a 2012 subaru forester. Even the wiring harness is not correct.!!

The wire harness is a perfect fit, as well as the faceplate. I would purchase this kit to upgrade your radio just for those two things. However, the brackets didn't work for me. The screw holes wouldn't line up on the radio I purchased, and also, even if I had tried to drill holes into the brackets to make it work, it wouldn't have sat flush into the slot in my Subaru dash. I ended up taking the metal brackets off the radio that was already in my car, and then screwed those onto the new radio that I purchased.

The product's original box, while sealed, had significant water damage across one complete end (I should note that two different purchases came in the same Amazon package, so the damage definitely happened before Amazon shipped everything to me). Fortunately, other than the instructions, nothing inside was damaged (luckily the instructions were still readable).Regarding the actual product, the plastic side pieces do not seem robust -- especially where they join to the front bezel with two small screws per side (the corresponding side mounting brackets on the original stereo were metal). Further, installing two of those small screws is a real chore, as they are located under the mounting flanges where it is nearly impossible to get a screwdriver (the other two require a longer, thin screwdriver to extend through the guide holes in the upper flanges on each side that provide access to their respective bezel mounting screws). The actual stereo mounts behind the full bezel and consequently is recessed so far that trying to use any physical controls on the stereo is much more difficult than it needed to be if the design was such that the front of the stereo was more flush with the front of the bezel. And as other reviewers have noted, the holes for mounting the stereo into the adapter are in no way close to the actual holes in the stereo, requiring the use of a rotary tool to route out the mounting channels in the plastic to be able to actually screw in the stereo (which in itself is difficult, because the mounting screws are tapered, and unless the routing is done properly, it will not center the stereo within the bezel). Alternately, one could reuse the metal OEM brackets, but that likely would also require drilling depending on the stereo and the location of its mounting holes.[And before one brings up the superficially appropriate argument that mounting holes on various stereo units may not be standard and consequently it is not necessarily the fault of this product that holes don't align, the stereo mounting holes in this product's brackets don't even align with the original factory stereo mounting holes, which one might expect at a very minimum.]Worse, none of the holes on the brackets aligned with the screw holes in the actual dash, so heavy modification of the ears on the brackets were required to not block those dash mounting holes, making it a trial-and-error process to get the unit properly aligned so that the final dash trim piece could be snapped back over the stereo. On the plus side (and the reason for two instead of just one star -- though I'm being really generous here), they provide extra bezel and stereo mounting screws in case you lose one, the color coding of wires on the adapter connector appear to follow some convention (as they are the same as on the stereo's connectors we also purchased), and the instructions have their adapter's pinout to use in case the color coding of the new stereo's conncetor(s) was different. But if you plan to use the radio feature of a stereo, this kit does not include an adapter cable to go from the Subaru radio's custom antenna connector to a standard style connector used by most stereo systems. So be prepared to separately buy an appropriate additional cable to allow using the existing car's antenna wiring. All in all, I feel this product to be poorly designed and incomplete. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be a lot of alternatives, so while I wouldn't otherwise recommend it, if it is the only adapter you can find, be prepared to carefully modify the mounting channels and mounting ear holes, and (assuming you want to use any AM/FM feature of your stereo) be prepared to obtain an additional cable to be able to hook up the car's antenna.

Like other reviewers started, bracket holes don't line up with stereo. Used factory metal bracket for stereo and faceplate trim piece is just floating on top of stereo.
