I ended up buying the Hauge* brand square lens hood and then tried saving money to get the round one. BOTH Hauge* brand hoods didnt fit snug at all. Both of the hoods tension screw was stripped/low quality. Treat yourself and the Oly 17 right the first time. Get the Olympus brand. It is literally specifically made to the exact dimension for this lens. I absolutely love it. Olympus/OM System Forever!

Unlike most lenses, the Olympus 17 mm 1.8 does not come with a lens hood and also does not have the typical 1/2 threaded connection to attach one, oddly enough. This lens hood does the job.The price is enough to make your teeth rattle but it is worth it to protect the lens.

I particularly like that it is metal, and secures very well to the lens.

Well built but too expensive and screw-on style. Should have returned it but waited too long.

I bought this for my Olympus 17mm f1.8 lens here at Amazon. Thought it was the best price around when I ordered it.It is a very nice piece of metal, and fits the lens like a glove. It is a clamp type hood. Goes with the metal lens construction perfectly. Took it out on very sunny days without getting any flare in the Pics.Since I work as an engineer and with metals, this is a work of art for fit and finish. I understand that in smaller quantities that manufacturing costs are higher. That's the way it is, not trying to justify overpricing. The (build) quality of this is outstanding. However, why only 4 stars? I feel that even though Olympus is the best around, they price gouge and this should have been included with the lens. That was opinion. Fact: The lens hood is still worth buying, even under protest.

I don't understand the 5-star reviews.I'm giving it 1-star because technically it is what it is (a lens hood) and there is no option for 0 stars. $60+(retail) for a made in China molded piece of metal that probably cost $3 to manufacture and ship. And, it's not included with the purchase of the $500 17 mm lens. There's more. The lens hood doesn't fit over a filter. You need to put the hood on first and then literally drop a filter onto the lens and wiggle/screw it into place with your fingertips. Incredibly inconvenient if you might want to shoot without the hood, for cleaning or to remove the hood for packing. Also, you cannot use a third-party lens cap with the lens hood. You better not lose that Olympus lens cap. Hmm, I wonder how much a replacement cap costs? With the hood on, it's extremely difficult to get the lens cap off quickly. You better have very small fingers or else forget it.I find it hard to believe that this is the only technologically possible lens hood design for the 17mm lens. Combine the above with the gross price mark-up and you have to question if Olympus just wants to stick it to the customer.I'd love to sit in the office of Olympus' CEO and watch him try to put on and take off the hood, filter and cap. That would be priceless.

I do not understand why Olympus does not include this with the lens purchase. I feel a little nickel and dimed about this. Having that off my chest, this is very well made and I am sure does its job. I always shoot with the hood, so frankly I don't see myself putting the effort into making identical shots without the hood and looking for flaws. I accept that these things help. There are other non-Olympus hoods that appear identical, plus get good reviews that are worth considering. Having the official Olympus hood was important to me. (Maybe irrationally so.)Why don't they make this attach with a bayonet mount?

Shade for the 17mm camera plus think about a filter for the lens. The shade doesn't screw into the lens but fits over the lens with a lock screw but attractive anyway and I see no problems in getting loose or in the way. Different than other lens shades that screw or set into the lens.

Great lens hood is a beautiful necessary accessory for the MZuiko 17mm f1.8 lens. This is designed well, functions as designed and is well made. Would buy again.
