Product is more of a "thin" metal. The flat plate inside does not state in instructions, IF it is required or not. I tried to use it first, but it made the cover "stick out" at the top of the drainage hole, as cover is slightly "curved" at the thicker end; I ending up using it WITHOUT the flat plate, as I was to secure it tighter and more flush with the top of my drainage hole. We will see how it works. Not sure if it's just "how things are made these days" - as the old one removed (20 years old!) was more heavy and thicker.

Simple install, I had to reuse my original screws because the included ones were too small, but not a problem.
