Easy to set up. Software is straightforward. A good way to learn about the practicality of motion detection outside. The drawbacks are universal to all brands: even when pointed straight down from above my front door, next to the exterior wall plane there are three or four false alarms for every package delivered. Why? Squirrels, voles, sparrows, neighbors cats, and rabbits. I ended up turning off the alarm text entirely and just check the logs periodically when I’m away. The need for motion detection is situational. If a place is unoccupied, great. If you’ve got a front stoop package theft problem and are willing to confront the porch pirates set the alarm for push notice and there’s only a few seconds spanned from sensing to alerting. It is really fast.

Worked fine for a couple of years, then started eating my expensive batteries every 3 months or so.

Depending upon your use for this, it works but has a notification time out.For my purposes I wanted to be notified when someone walks in but it does not notify you if there has not been enough time between motion sense. Now that it is winter, I just got a door sensor so I know when the door opens, have to figure out something else for next summer when the door stays open for ventilation.

Using it with my Telo as a security system for my beach condo. Works great. Have had two alerts, one when exterminator came in and another when a friend (with a key) dropped something off for me. Call was almost instantaneous. When I got the call I pulled up my camera and watched them enter the condo. That’s how fast the call was. I haven’t mounted it yet, just have it sitting on a counter near the front door. Great thing is that this is a free security system when using with the Ooma Telo service. $5 per month for unlimited phone and now security. Well pleased.

The system with security and phone service has been working great for me. I've been using it for seven months. Never a false trigger or missed event. I had a few issues at first with it going offline but Ooma keeps updating the software to work out the bugs. I don't have pets so I don't know if they would cause problems with the motion sensor. Ooma has a discussion group that is closely monitored by an expert moderator (Tom) who responds immediately to questions and problems better than any product that I've seen.Update 2/6/19 = System still works great except I'm having battery life problems with one of the motion sensors. I added the first motion sensor and three door sensors (bought from Ooma) to my system in June 2017 and all are still using the original batteries that came with them from Ooma. That motion sensor is in a high traffic are with lots of activations every day. So far that's nearly 20 months on the original batteries. The problem is with a second motion sensor in a low traffic area purchased separately from Amazon about two weeks later. The original CR123A lithium battery lasted 14 months but none of the replacement batteries have lasted more than three weeks. I've tried Energizer, Duracell and other highly rated and expensive batteries. I've asked for assistance or recommendations on replacement batteries on the Ooma discussion group but no response.. Very disappointing. If performance is so variable, I can't recommend a system that requires replacing expensive batteries every two or three weeks. I dropped my five star rating to three star.Update 9/3/2020. Very short battery life (three weeks) problem was on only one motion sensor which must have been defective.. Replaced the sensor and added a third sensor. All have battery life of over a year now and still working.

So far, so good! We had a little trouble trying to figure out how to keep the sensor on "away" if we had it programmed for night and day as well. It kept switching back to the daytime mode (which doesn't alert us). We finally just put notifications on all modes if we left town and that seemed to work. We're still learning. It senses motion well though, even in poor light (we just have a tiny night light going in the night and it still "sees" you! This gives me a sense of security at night as well because my phone would ring if someone broke in downstairs. I like having the base unit "speak" as well--hopefully a thief would hear that and leave! If you already use Ooma phones and you have the premier service, the security is free except for the purchase price. Why wouldn't you try it?

Doin' it on The Cheap. I hate having to continually pay fees for services. I am cheap, no doubt about it. I have used OOMA for over 4 years. Mostly, I have been satisfied. At times I have to perform a hard restart, power it down and back up. But, for 90 percent of the time, it serves me well. In March when I found out OOMA was getting into the home security arena, I was intrigued. I have the "legacy" Telo. It will only accept 3 sensors. The new Telo can accept, I believe, 32 sensing devices. You can have one sensor monitored by you Telo for free. That's for me. Thus I chose the motion sensor. It calls your cell phone to let you know something, or someone is moving in your house. It will then give you the option to press "1" for 911 connection. This is prefect for when we are out of the house or on vacation. Installation is fairly straightforward, but could be a problem for the less tech aware folks (like me, older people). Start with loading the free APP on your cell. It will walk you through the process. A nice touch is your Telo will inform you that the sensor(s) have been properly paired. Use of the APP takes some getting used to. The 911 "button" at the bottom of the screen is WAY TOO close to the MODE button. I can see people accidently hitting the 911 button. I hope OOMA cleans up the app and makes it more user friendly and accident proof. Some law enforcement communities charge a fine for false alarms. So be careful. Overall, if you want have your house monitored and be notified of an intruder, and are cheeeeaaaaap like me, this is a good alternative to paying for monthly monitored security services. It does work.
