I Have an SAE thread pitch gauge, but always relied on a something much simpler to verify what metric threads I had. This is made very similar to my older SAE gauge just wished the thumb knobs were just a smidge bigger but it gets the job done. No more guessing on metric bolts or threaded rod.

A good quality product that comes very useful during standard thread settings and cutting threads. This item is a lifesaver when it comes to determining unknown threads.A point to note is, the blades could have been made another 2.5-3 centimeters longer, enabling to measure of internal threads. I've spent years using makeshift methods to identify my assortments of SAE and metric hardware. But even after investing in proper SAE and metric thread pitch gauges, I was still lost when I got a British car, complete with a big box full of "spare" British hardware. The gauges on this tool are enough to cover almost any SAE, metric, BSW, or BSF fastener, plus a ton of different plumbing connections.The numbers on each gauge are stamped, not printed, so they won't wear off. You can make them a little easier to read by rubbing greasy, grimy hands (like, just after you WD-40 those used rusty bolts) over the markings to fill them in with nice dark gunk. (Or be more civilized and flow some thinned paint into the numbers with a toothpick. You could even color-code UNF vs UNC or UNF vs BSF pitches if you want to get crazy.)In one afternoon this tool proved that my "British" assortment actually had a few SAE bolts and an entire bag full of metric bolts mixed in. The only thing that could make it better is if it had the really weird BA thread pitches (31 3/4 TPI, 25 1/2 TPI, etc). But just having 32 TPI and 26 TPI gauges has helped me to identify those little guys.One more nice tidbit: It fits perfectly into the little pocket that's pre-punched in the foam of a standard dial caliper case. Very handy!

This is an OK product. It has a lot of numerous sizes, SAE, and Metric. The tool is a little small and has all of these jamed into a small package. It would have been much better, if they made it longer and thicker. But, it does seem to have all the thread sizes. A tip: use your existing Taps in your die set to find the proper thread sizes. One of them will work, or you just don't own the right size. Thus, you will need this tool to determine the correct tap you need to purchase.

Extremely handy and accurate. The pouch is a little flimsy and has already torn but the tool it self is great quality and is Made in Germany.
