Stylus Replacement Ortofon

How to replace a stylus

Firstly lock the turntable tone arm, unscrew the cartridge, gently remove the stylus from the cartridge and insert a new stylus. A stylus is changed usually by pulling straight out and in the opposite direction of the turntable's arm. If the stylus doesn't come with directions, try these: with one hand, hold the cartridge to steady it. With the other hand, using a pair of tweezers, grasp the stylus from both sides and pull. Install the new stylus: holding the stylus from the top, press it gently into the space at the tip of the cartridge where the old stylus had been. Don't force it.

Stylus Cleaning Ortofon

Proper care comprises of the following:

Cleaning of record by means of carbon fibre brush before and after every use. Cleaning of record by using record cleaning machine once in a while.

Cleaning of stylus by means of a fine antistatic brush. Please remember to remove dust from the diamond tip before and after playback of each record. Use the brush in the forward direction from the rear of the cartridge towards the stylus tip and never from stylus tip to the rear of the cartridge and never from side to side.

Proper adjustment of antiskating, azimuth and tracking force.

Ortofon OM Variations

Single Vs Pre-mounted

Ortofon's OM Series of DJ cartridges are available in two versions: Single or Pre-mounted.

The single version is just the cartridge and does NOT include a headshell.

The pre-mounted version includes a headshell and the cartridge is already mounted to it for easy installation.

Really couldn't find a better deal for these. A little lighter then I would prefer compared to my other ortofons but overall quality cartridge and needle.

Es muy fácil de instalar, y el cambio es muy bueno a comparación de lo que tenía antes, es una excelente opción para comenzar con tener un buen setup de audio, muy recomendable

Edit: after recalibrating and letting the stylus "break in" by continuing to use it for a few months, it now sounds pretty good.Pretty bad sound quality with this cartridge. I can't find any replacement styli for my old Shure M35X so I tried this out. This Ortofon does the job but sounds pretty bad! All treble sounds mildly distorted and any vocal 'S' sounds are now 'SHH' sounds. I expected way more after all of the positive reviews.

I really wanted a great turntable and bought an Audio-Technica LP120XUSN. l didn't have money to buy a good receiver or speakers and all I had was a Logitec 625 2.1 set up with THX computer speakers, which by the way kick ass. Knowing I needed to preamp the turntable and wanted an EQ for the preamp I found the Behringer MiniFBQ FBQ800 Ultra-Compact 9-Band Graphic Equalizer and put it all together, I had no idea what this would sound like so I just adjusted the arm balance and put on my favorite 5FDP LP. Yeah, It sounded great! But I wasn't quite feeling the A-T needle creating the sound, it was great but wasn't just generating the feeling quite yet. In three days I figured that I needed to get back to that '80s vibe so to that I went for the best and the only way to get there was through an Ortofon stylus. I did a lot of thinking on which model to get, I purchased the Ortofon OM Pro S and after a few tweaks, I was set! I love this needle. My first Ortofon was one of the early Concord's from back in 1980. I have found that there is no hissing or crackling and feedback from my 100 Watt speaker literally 18" away. The only thing you can do with a system like mine is to get the right stylus. Go Ortofon and the best to me is the OM Pro S. My system-literally is a PC-based beast (no expert would think to walk backward and make a great-sounding stereo like this). This proved to me what I felt and loved from my first set up (Man I miss that NAD amp) Ortofon would once again take me home.

Ortofon is definitely a benchmark in turntable cartridges. All my tables are equipped with the 2MBlue; I tested the Ortofon OM Pro S on an Audio Technica AT-LP120XBT, and I am very satisfied! Possibly a little less definition, but in this case it's perfect!

I am shocked. I had seen on some vinyl sites that people had been talking about this little club cartridge/needle combo. Even though it is used for scratching, it's an amazing setup for at home listening. I've paid a couple hundred for a Sure and I have to say, at just around $30, this is much, much better. The warm rich tones are unmatched. The sound is so clear that I could take original albums like Abbey Road, or Exile On Main Street, play them and still hear the breath the singer takes before he sings. An orchestra sounds breathtaking with this thing. Go for it. Just spend a few bucks on this thing. You will not be unhappy with that purchase. Even if you use it as a second hand one to play periodically, I think you will like it. As far as a setup, the tracking force specifications that come with it say to set it at 4.0. I wouldn't recommend this. It could really ruin your stuff. I set mine at 1.5 to around 1.8 and it works fine. As far as straightening the cartridge.....didn't have to. It comes pre-mounted, and I must say, it did not need adjusted once I installed it. Great sound. Nice bass and clear. Love this thing!

I am perfectly able to install a new cartridge, but since I wanted a new matching head-shell too, this deal was perfect. I am under the impression from, reading audio forums, that I am am able to upgrade this with a better stylus when this one wears out, so bonus!

It just arrived. Installed on my Technics 1210 MK5 & it sounds fantastic right out of the box. It will sound even better as the days/weeks/months roll by. It sounds Crisp but with a warmth and bass response that sound better to me than my older shure cartridges. I'm not a DJ, home listening only.First album test Led Zeppelin III. Immigrant Song seared a smile into my face. Completed the album then moved onto Jimi Hendrix The Cry of Love. Sounds clear and vivid & the bass response was everywhere & tight.
