Tried for 2 hours to remove the lines at the trans 4l80E (96) have a 97 4l80E setting on the floor with a bit of finagling it did work on the 97. But trying to put your hands between two three inch exhaust pipes stand on your head put your leg around your neck and try to turn this thing and squeeze at the same time about a joke my thumbs are actually sore from messing with it for so long.

The tool works quite well IF YOU HAVE GOOD ACCESS AND CLEARANCE. I bought this to do the transcooler lines on my 2002 silverado. The tool works as advertised, and works quite well, but is not magic for hard to reach fittings. The thing is you really need two hand access to the fitting, one to use the release tool, and your other hand to pull out of the line from the fitting. This is not a one-hand magic tool for hard to reach fittings that you can only get one hand on. For the fittings on the side of the trans tucked up in the transmission tunnel of the truck, I still ended up using the pick method for removing the spring clips. But for the fittings I had easier access to, like on the cooler up front or the lines going in to the radiator, this tools does exactly what it says and allowed me to remove the lines without removing (and risk losing) the spring clip.

It's quite small and spring steel is stiff, worked very well despite a build up if rust and dirt.... Cut thru crud and with slight twist popped the spring clip open leave in place with light tug and line came out no losing clip.. Better than round plastic units.. Tab tool makes use much easier, metal construction cuts thru crud easy...

Used on a 2003 GMC Sierra Work Truck. It has the 4L60E trans. There is no physical way for a normal sized person to get their hand in the available space to release the clip and pull those the transmission cooling lines on the transmission side. (long picks and saintly patience might work from below but oh my .....) Pop the tool partially on the part of line you can get to and slide it down the line. I even went over few bends and the 90 degree turn and managed to keep the tool clipped onto the line. Then make sure the clip is fully seated around the line and with your hand or a pair of long curved needle nose pliers pinch, push it in until the notches aren't visible, twist and pull the line.

I had one leaking transmission line on my 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 but decided to replace all three. I read the reviews here and did my due You Tube diligence. I saw all the videos about using a pick to remove the clips. I have good mechanical skills but thought this tool looked useful. I changed the lines today and found that a pick would work fine when there was room to get the pick in the right place. But where space was tight, I found this gizmo to be very helpful. If you look closely at the tool, you can see that one notch needs to slide into the “space” in the clip. One engaged, you just turn the tool slightly and the clip expands and releases the line. There is no need to remove the clip. Just remove the tool leaving the clip in place, clean inside the groove, then pop the new line back into the fitting. I found it particularly useful on the two lines that come from the side of the tranny, and the lower radiator line. All three of these connections are in very tight spaces, and even with the heat shield removed I found it difficult to get a good visual on the tranny lines. I am not the richest Amazon customer on earth, but for me, this tool saved me time and effort and was well worth the price. I would buy it again.

The picture really does make the tool bigger than what it really looks like as it's almost half the size of a finger in length but the size doesn't do it justice as it seems to be a helpful tool. I am a technician at GM and i'll say it now that's ALL i replace it seems is oil and transmission cooler lines. The problem with this tool i found it that on GM's and many other manufactures they use a spring C-Clip that have to spread open to pull the line out but trying to use a pick is difficult because if you drop this clip then chances are you will NEVER find it because they blend with everything. The transmission cooler lines are a smaller line and C-Clip and the oil cooler lines have a larger line and clip so this tool ONLY works with the transmission cooler lines because the size of the tool. It slips over the transmission lines but because the oil cooler lines are larger this tool with not fit. It is disappointing because the oil cooler lines are also usually connect also the radiator so you basically going to be ending up using a pick to fish it out anyway. The tool is tight fit on the line as you really have to press this on the line. Once one it can be quite difficult getting it correctly set up and trying to squeeze the tabs while pulling the line out of the rad while trying to get into this difficult spot with limited access. If you have access with no obstructions then this tool is a breeze but if everything is obstructing it and you can barley get your hand in there then all is say it good luck. Trust me because i spend a lot of time with this tool and it's can be difficult getting it lined up, pressing in, while turning, while trying to pull the line, with limited access all at the same time. There is positives to this because it does save time not having to remove the clip and drop it and leaves the clip on the line so when you connect the new line it just snap's right in place. The process does need to be easier in my opinion. The idea it great but execution is different than concept. However the tool does make the job easier and would say i recommend the tool because i do still use it on a daily basics.

This tool worked all right for me, I used it to replace the transmission cooler hoses on a 2002 Silverado 2 wheel drive pickup. Due to corrosion, one of the lines was leaking, and needed to be replaced. Although it worked fine on the really accessible connectors on the radiator, I resorted to use of a pick to remove the clips on the transmission connections. I then unscrewed the connectors from the transmission, reinstalled them with the clips installed, then reconnected the cooler lines. I wasn't sure if it was operator error, or if a different technique was required for line removal, but this tool wasn't of much help. Add to that the cost ($18), and I'd recommend a pass on this tool. It works, but I didn't find it to be terribly helpful; a pick and a little patience will save you some $$.

Item is 1" long, worked perfectly for what I wanted it for, to remove the return cooler line from the transmission on my 2000 Pontiac Montana van. The line going in there has about 4-5" of straight line at the fitting, so it was a snap to use. It may be difficult to use in a situation where there is a sharp curve in the line close to the fitting, such as at the radiator. Just keep in mind you need about 1-1/4" of straight tubing to use this item. It was a little difficult to get over the line, but once it was on, it worked like a charm.

If you find yourself having to either remove your rad, or if your transmission cooler lines are leaking at the connection going into the transmission, this is a great tool to have on hand. It does the job of disconnecting the little spring holder clip easily. It used to take me at least 5 minutes of fiddling with a thin piece of wire or small screw drivers to get at the little clip to pry it up to release the cooler line and you usually don't have really good access to the fitting...this little tool only requires one hand and you don't even need to see what your doing, for you can just push it in and twist it by feel alone. When you been having a rough day and don't have your normal amount of patience for fiddling, this is the kind of tool that saves the day. Having the right tool for job is always the way to go and this is the right tool!

This little tool does a great job and is built to last. Easily inserts to the fitting and expands the spring clip. Spring steel material helps clean out crud in the fitting when used. Also handy to help install the clip, if it was removed. Problem, will not work on lines with tight bend close to the fitting. Also easy to loose the tool because is is small.
