It's a great idea. It's nice that it attaches directly to the camera power and comes with the audio adapter. But, there are some drop-outs at times and I cannot tell if that's the mic or my cameras...I'm guessing it's the mic. It's not clear what the little screw is for. Instructions say you can turn it but for what, noise, sensitivity, other? The problem with the little screw is that it does not stop in either direction and so you can spin it forever, so how do you know where to set it to?I have my cameras up so high that I have to use a special ladder that 1) I don't want to drag out and 2) don't really want to climb. If I can find another external camera the same as the models I own (they are a bit old) then I will get it and experiment with the microphone inside the house in a controlled environment.UPDATE, I think the little screw is for the volume. On some of my cams I had this mic plugged into the speakers jack (red) whereas the microphone jack is yellow...I had it correct on one camera. When I see two jacks: red and yellow, my mind thinks RED is the mic - okay I was wrong. I now have sound on all 5 of my cameras so now I have to go back up on the ladder, move the volumes and come back in and test the volume level.

We use these microphones on two Foscam surveillance cameras, one indoor and one outdoor. The outdoor one will pick up sound from 200 feet away. This is too sensitive for indoor use but turning the volume control down solves that.

Used both indoors and outdoors, no complaints at all. The key to using outdoors (where there's lots of noise such as cars and wind) is to find the little screw and turn down the sensitivity. Indoors they work fine out of the box, outdoors (under roof overhangs in the front and rear of my home) they were too sensitive and needed adjustment. Once I did that, they were fine.

These have such clear sound that it is amazing! You can hear everything being said, even when they talk soft. I would definitely recommend them to others, and I would buy them all over.

I was amazed at what these tiny mics pick up. The clarity is unbelievable, I can hear the people across the street , about 1 to 1 1/2 acres away. They are worth every penny for adding audio to your surveillance system.
