It's a well-made nylon hat with the thought put into the design evident with the dark underside of the brim (to minimize glare reflection). Sizing runs a little big (I take 7-1/2 to 7-5/8 and the L fits right). It's important to come close because if you tighten the adjustment cord more than just a tad, it collapses the back end of the hat.

I had to reorder a Large and returned the Medium. I have thick hair and that made the difference. Wore it today and it's perfect. Like it much better than a baseball cap because the bucket has some neck protection, and the rim kept the sun out of my eyes, too. Finally have found a hat that covers all the bases without a super wide brim. 5 stars!

Survived a jet boat ride on the Snake River, WA/OR/ID. True to size with an adjustable head band. Could use a full vent strip around top, but otherwise well made and very comfortable. Brim right width without being floppy in some high winds.

I have a number of hats by this brand. Not really available in the uk. Well worth seeking out.I more casual alternative to a tiley hat, it folds up very small. The chin pace is useful in wing. It comes of it it's not for you. Fit was spot on for my 62 cm head.

The hat is well-design to serve its purpose: to protect your head, eyes, face and neck against sun rays while being lightweight, washable, and portable. I think it's quite chic too although its images make it look taller than it actually is in terms of the height to width ratio (I finally decided it wasn't worth taking one star off). The rim is thicker and thus tougher than the top, which is really thin and light, providing less heat insulation and more ventilation. Size M fits my 58-centimeter skull just right while there is a string and fastener to adjust the diameter to a smaller head. Mine says it was made in China but although it wasn't the cheapest option for me to get it to Europe, I don't regret I bought it to cover my baldish scalp…

Bucket hats almost invariably have a circular plan which means with a long oval head like mine the hat is distorted fore and aft so that the brim sticks out at the side and slopes steeply downward at the front and back. This means that a) I get almost no sun protection on my neck and face, and b) I look a twerp! - more than usual anyway, which I don't really care for you see, so I especially like this 'bucket hat' because the brim is shaped to fit an oval head not a circular one.I've also found that sitting in a hot sun with no breeze you want to have a hat high and light on your head. Heavy hats slip down to sit lower and hotter. This is very light and stays put. However in a breeze you can pull it down and it stays on just fine for me. I don't like stampede strings on the whole so I have removed mine but they could easily be reattached to the little loops. The size large fits my size 59 head very comfortably and I can tighten it at the back with the elastic cord if it needs to be more snug.The hat seems well made with good stitching, accurate and no loose threads all over the place. The khaki colour is quite nice and subdued.All in all a very light and comfortable hat that fits me well and I can shove it in a pocket any time.Seller was extremely quick and it arrived pronto.Update a year later - it did shrink a tiny amount with washing and if you do have it low down it can reduce your field hearing behind you. I noticed on a canal boat it did sometimes funnel the engine noise up into the hat, but all through last year's heatwave it was invaluable. I spent whole days out in the beating sun and it was very comfortable.

I've always loved hats but never looked good in them. When we moved onto our boat, it became urgently important to get some sun protection. I had a couple wide brim hats that weren't getting worn. I discovered bucket hats & ordering a "size" instead of "one size fits all." After reading reviews, and consulting the manufacturer's website, I ordered a medium. My first thought was it was slightly big, but the adjustment in the back quickly fixed it. I can cinch it down for a bike ride or loosen it up for walks. Also, the chin strap is lighter weight with a smaller fastener than other hats--a much appreciated feature that makes it less annoying. It will also fit behind the ears comfortably. Sunglasses fit under the brim without interfering. Best of all, I get excellent sun protection for my ears, moderate for my neck (combine with a buff for better coverage) and "better than nothing" face protection. I don't even mind grabbing it for a quick walk across the street. Highly recommend. I may add the Sombriolet for sunnier days (and give all the other hats away!)

My wife and I take her students to CIMI or Catalina Island Marine Institute. I am of the Hispanic descent, and also have male pattern baldness. I have never had a problem with being burned by the sun until I visited Catalina Island. It was terrible my head face neck and especially my lips and nose. I had second degree burns around my lips and nose. So when I came home I knew something had to change. I did a little research and decided on the Outdoor Research Sun Bucket Hat. I can honestly say this hat is amazing. Its lightweight it floats in water it is both comfortable to wear, and stylish. Most importantly no more sunburn. I have taken to Catalina guess what no sunburn. In fact if I’m going to spend any time outdoors this hat is part of my wardrobe. I don’t know how Outdoor Research does this, but I feel like I sweat less, and stay cooler when wearing this hat. I love this hat it’s worth every penny.

Recently purchased this hat and tried it out yesterday on a five mile hike along Lake Natoma here in the Sacramento Area. It was 70 degrees and breezy-about 25 mph.The hat performed well, with good coverage on the face due to the down turned brim. Not so much coverage on the neck, but I normally use sunblock or tie a handkerchief back there anyway. I do a lot of backpacking and need a hat that gives good coverage and has a brim that won't hit the backpack. The brim on this hat won't hit the backpack.I am 6' 1", 195 lb. and normally take a large hat and the large of this hat fit me just fine. I was really impressed with the cinch strap inside the hat which came in handy when the wind picked up by the lake shore. I simply tightened the internal cinch strap and in combination with the neck strap there was little chance of the hat blowing off my head. Also at no time did the brim turn up with the wind; I hate that look.I'm not sure how the hat will perform in really hot weather, let's say 100 degrees, but the nylon material felt good in the 70 degree weather.All in all a very nice hat that will become my "go-to" hat for hiking and backpacking.As usual the service from Amazon was fast and efficient.
