I have been using this machine for a few months. This scanner does a decent job scanning 35mm negatives so I think it works well most of the time when scanning 35mm film whole frame. There are two main problems I found. First problem, sometimes the scanning arm that moves back and forth in the machine gets stuck on something inside so I would have to turn the power off and turn it back on to reset it. It sounded like something inside the machine may be stripping like a belt of some sort is trying to move a part but can't. The second problem has to do with half frame scanning. I have had a consistent problem with with scanning half frame images. The CyberViewX5 app simplifies the half frame scanning process by automating two scans back to back. The problem is on the first scan attempt, the majority of the time, it produces a blue hue image as you can see in the picture. The work around is to change the setting on the app from half frame mode to regular 35mm and just scan each frame manually defeating the purpose of the half frame mode. I also saw another oddity. When I turn off magic touch, it still indicates that magic touch is on when it is scanning as shown in the picture. I also found that when I use the Fast scan mode, the blue hue occurs more often but when I use quality scan mode, there is less problems. I am using 5000 dpi on these scans. This machine also have mood swings. Sometimes it work as designed. Other times, when I make a selection on the preview scan to adjust which part of the image is scanned, it ignores my selection and only scans the top half of the image. I have to turn off the machine and reboot my system in order to fix it. Other than that, it seems to be working fine.
