I have replaced the gold balls and arms a couple of times over the past few years. The replacement were plastic and had plastic balls on the end. They looked okay but inevitably one or more of the ends would fall off so needed replacement. This replacement kit is metal and the ends (balls) screw onto the cross arm. They won't fall off. They look good and feel strong. I haven't hung anything on them so I can't attest to whether or not you can hang hanging flower baskets on them. I would guess that you could as long as you don't put too large (heavy) on them. I'm very pleased. It was a reasonable cost for a smart replacement.
