In my state, human-powered watercraft only require a white light viewable 360°. That said, I live in an area with commercial boats that travel 24 hours a day, so a little extra visibility to signal my presence and trajectory is always a good thing. This light runs on 3 AAA batteries. It has a weird sort of rail mount that I couldn’t figure out how to use, but also screws into the beefy rubber suction cup with plastic threads. I know it’s all plastic, but it seems reasonably sturdy for recreational use.I can’t vouch for how far away you can see these lights. They’re not super bright, but neither are the running lights on other boats. Too bright and they could be blinding, especially in a small boat like a kayak where they’re mounted directly in front of the cockpit.Remember to mount these lights facing forward so they can be seen by boats directly in front of you. The red light should be on your left and the green light on your right. The suction cup seems pretty good, but if you’re worried about them you could tie a thin safety cord through the loop molded into the side of the light.

The Pactrade Battery Powered Suction Navigation Light really is a simple solution to the problem with Marine NAV lighting, in our case a John Boat, to meet the Coast Guard Standards. Our boat requires Nav lights, it doesn't have a electrical system so LED Battery is the simple solution, having a suction mounted NAV light makes it easy to remove and store. Eventually I will install a permanent system, for now being able to stick a NAV light in place to do a little fishing works just fine. The Pactrade NAV light is a simple solution.

I needed a backup light for my rowing shell for when I forget to charge my other bow light. This suctions well to the fiberglass boat, but like others have stated, it's not super bright. This is fine if you need something on the boat, but I would use this only if you don't have another option. For the price this is a decent option.

I like that this little bow light is small and compact and that it comes with a suction cup mount. The light being an LED should provide for good battery life. The light also has a slide clip that allows it to be quickly taken on and off of the lower mounting part. The light comes with absolutely no instructions, but if you can figure out a flashlight, you can master this. The negative is the units lack of brightness, especially in all of the directions that the light should be seen.Like many LED bulbs, the light is not evenly distributed and in effect you have bright and dim spots where it should be relatively consistent. For small boats these side lights are supposed to be visible for at least 1 nautical mile. I seriously doubt that this light will be able to meet that requirement from all viewing angles. Some bright spots/viewing angles may meet the 1 nm requirement, but it won't be bright enough from all viewing angles.I use lights like this on my dinghy in small harbors along with an all around stern light. The light is not perfect, but I think that it is adequate for my needs. I wouldn't however want it to be scrutinized by the Coast Guard of other on the water law enforcement.

*initial review 2/16/24*You'll need to check your states water laws but oklahoma allows pwc to boat at night if the boat lights are added. Since they are not designed to have lights, it usually requires drilling through the hull and tying into the electrical system. There are quite a few options for the back light where you do not have to drill, but the front light has few. But this solves the issue completely. It is winter now so I cannot test this on the water. It is designed to stay attached by suction. I am going to attach a rope to it just in case it detaches during use. Also I have not tested how long it will stay lit from battery power. But it is the only option I have found that is really easy to attach. If it lasts a season, I feel like it's worth the price.

I like the size. It easily fits in a duffle, batteries last a long time. It seems like it isn't bright enough when you are close, but from a distance it is quite visible. I row in a major harbor at sunrise and I am comfortable with my visibility. The suction cup doesn't like our varnished wood, but we tape onto the bow & just remove the light when we finish. Great for the price!

This nav light does the job. Suction cup works well on kayaks with a smooth, flat spot on the nose. The light is not US Coast Guard rated, which may be required depending on where you live.
