I got this because I was unsatisfied with my lattice cutting plastic disk that I use to cut the pie crust. This is so much easier and efficient compared to what I did before. Yes you can use a knife and cut slits and achieve the results needed BUT this give the crust that professional appearance. I would have preferred the handle to be made of Plastic or stainless Steel incase I wanted to put it in the dishwasher but as long as the crust is not sticky, really no clean up is required.
