I tried this adapter on a SuperMicro 1U chassis and a PCIe 2.0 SAS HBA. So far, everything has been working perfectly; I haven't seen any PCIe errors in the logs. You need to make sure that the PCI Express slot on your ATX or Micro ATX motherboard is at least x8. x16 slots will also work. I also tried an ITX motherboard, but the adapter and the card did not align properly with the chassis's slot.
