About this item

  • PERFECT FOR VACATIONS & HOLIDAYS: The Daily-Double Automatic Fish Feeder is the perfect solution for aquarists who need to make sure their fish are fed during a weekend trip, a vacation, or a holiday stay. The large capacity food drum holds enough flake food for up to 4 weeks! Needs 1 (AA) (Battery Not Included).
  • FEEDS TWICE A DAY: This battery-operated fish feeder automatically feeds fish twice a day as it cycles through 12-hour intervals. Please note that this setting cannot be changed or altered. The newly featured On/Off switch allows you to better set each 12-hour interval.
  • FLAKE FISH FOOD: The Daily-Double Automatic Fish Feeder is designed to dispense finely crushed flake food. Larger flakes need to be broken up to prevent clogging. If you are using pellet food, do not fill the drum up fully. Fill the drum to 1/3 capacity and check regularly for proper rotation.
  • KEEPING MOISTURE OUT: To keep food dry, do not place above any bubbling aquarium accessories, such as air stones, aerating ornaments, or turbulent filters. The moisture created by these accessories may be absorbed by the flakes, causing unnecessary clogging.
  • ADDITIONAL FEATURES: This feeder can be either mounted to a tank or can be freestanding on top of an aquarium cover or lid. In addition, there’s a built-in adjustable food dispenser that allows you to regulate the quantity of food your fish are receiving. Moreover, this newest model includes an On/Off Switch, allowing you to set when the 12-hour interval begins.

We were gone for a week and came back to all our fishes alive! It does dispense a lot of food so I put some tape over the whole to save the problem. Great quality & the humidity doesnt get inside.

This works great for my aquaponics system - feeding the fish. I did destroy the first one I had because the inner works snapped when I tried to manually adjust it. They seem like they could use a little bit more sturdy plastic/metal to make it more sturdy. Also - we have had to adjust it a bit to make it feed more in the 2 - 12 hour feedings.

I managed an Aquarium shop for many years and sold lots of these. There isn't a timer to program. It feds every 12 hours from the time you load the batteries. I don't recommend this feeder for flakes since they tend to get stuck in the feeding tube. It is best used for small and mini pellets. Make sure you don't place over an airstone because the moisture will cause the food to stick. Also, put the food in the hopper loosely not packed so it can roll out and not get jammed. I suggest setting up the feeder about 2 days before your trip so you can adjust the amount of food properly and of course use NEW batteries.

I had this feeder in the corded version for about 20 years. We've used it on vacations of up to 3 months...with housesitter refilling it. When it finally quit, I couldn't find the same thing and bought another brand. That one never was reliable and I had to tape it to the aquarium lid to hold it in place. I was so happy to find this feeder again! It is battery operated, but otherwise seems the same. It delivers an adequate amount of food crisps (with the tube twisted wide open) twice a day to feed the 10 large cichlids and amazons in my 90 gallon tank. The food lasted two weeks while we were away. Fish survived. It doesn't required setting time of day so is a very simple machine. Just point the tube down when you want it to empty and it will cycle to that time twice a day. I'm hoping this one will last as long as the last!

Well, it worked okay for the first three days. Then it just stopped. Tried a new battery and it worked for another...let's call it 16 hours. So basically it's a twice a feeder, but you have to replace the battery about daily. I sure am glad I tested this before I went on vacation or I'd come back to a tank full of fish. I figured it would last longer than that, but live and learn I guess. At least I got a nice tank hood ornament out of it.

This unit feeds the fish 2X every 24 hr. I initially got the unit this summer when I was going on vacation for 2 wks.. It worked so well I am still using it. The trick is not to use flake food but rather pellets. I tried flake and the chute just plugs up. I use Yardley Pond Pellets. This food may not work for smaller fish, however. The unit is plastic and the initial impression is that it is somewhat flimsy ... so far so good, though.

As other reviews have noted, this feeder works but its not the best. I'm only giving it 3 stars, because for a few dollars more you can get much better value for your money (see suggested alternatives at the end of my review). How it works:The drum on the front slowly rotates by 360 degrees over 12 hours -- just like the hour hand on a clock -- giving you two feedings a day. You can hear the mechanism ticking fainting (also just like a clock). The feed timing can't be adjusted, except to choose when you want the cycle to begin; it always feeds 12 hours apart. There is an orange tube that runs through the drum with a scoop on one end and an opening on the other; when the opening is at 12 o'clock the scoop will start to pick up food. As the drum continues to rotate the food falls into the tube until it is lifted high enough to start sliding out of the opening by gravity. Depending on the type and amount of food in the tube, it might slide out anytime from 3 o'clock to 6 o'clock, and it could come out a little bit at a time or all at once. You can control the amount dispensed by twisting the tube, which changes the angle that the scoop hits the food (allowing more or less food to enter the tube). In general this isn't a very accurate method of measuring, and the amount per feeding can vary a lot depending on factors such as the type of food and how full the drum is at the time.Food types:It works reliably with granulated food, pellets or crisps. It will work with flake food, but only if you lightly crush it first; whole flakes can easily block the entrance to the scoop and prevent it picking up anything at all. If you are going to use flake food you should monitor it to make sure the fish are actually getting their dinner ...User modifications:I had some issues with moisture collecting in the drum and spoiling the food, so following the advice in other reviews I drilled a few holes in the front to allow ventilation, and I also made sure the battery compartment was properly sealed using some silicone.Alternative feeders:The following feeders are based on a common design that you will see frequently (I think they are probably all made in the same factory in China and then rebranded ... even PetCo sells an "own brand" copy of these). I think it's a superior feeder because you can program the feeding times (up to 4 per day) and the method for pickup up food gives more consistent results. Also, it doesn't have moisture issues, the food is dispensed all at once and it doesn't tick.- - -
