I purchased for pottery so they are used wet mostly. They degrade and lose the smooth surface quickly.

When they arrived I opened the package and they started to expand to their proper size. They felt a little too puffy and light so I put them to one side and forgot about them for a few days. Went back to use them today and they now have the proper firmness and I used them to throw clay and they work great. Can't beat the price!

these arrived vacuum sealed, and flat as a pancake left open for 24 hours and still flat as a pancake definitely not thick like the picture portrays.

I use these sponges to clean my Catit water fountain. They are flexible yet durable and work great!

These sponges rehydrate and fluff up nicely once wet. They work great with my clay. I find they have an equivalent longevity to the sponges sold at the pottery studio.

Used these for face painting. Pretty big whole. I cut them up in different shapes for different designs. They came sealed, but puffed up in hot water within minutes. Very minimal smell, not itchy on skin.

we bought these for face painting. They are great for one time use. The paint gets into all the pores of the sponge. some sponges were denser than other sponges

I am a potter and these do not stand up to the use like the standard yellow pottery sponges. I thought they would be cool and black but they fall apart very easily for clay work. These sponges may be good for other art projects.

Received these today. Which I did order last minute for a face painting gig tomorrow and came quickly! However, when I opened the box I was these flat compressed sponges. Which in turn freaked me out when I cut the bag open they didn't start to springing up... Worried and cussing I put one in a little bit of water (cold).. left the room and looked at reviews... So went back with the whole bag and put them in hot water... To my relief they all puffed out perfectly with in seconds...I will update my review aftery gig tomorrow on how they hold up!

I'm a face and body painter (and craft painter) and these sponges are great. You don't have to see any staining and easy to clean. I cut them in half and some in quarters for smaller areas to paint. The rounded edge is key to smooth application!They came in Vaccum pack so thin like makeup powder pads! See pics. As soon as opened up... I couldn't stack them fast enough as they expanded before my eyes! So they are the 3+inches wide and abt 3/4 of an inch thick.

Following advice of other reviewers, I cut open the top of the bag, filled with warm water, poured it out and let it dry in my dish rack. Perked these up immediately, they are perfect.
