Ignitor Electronic Ignition Conversion Kits have proven themselves in applications ranging from race cars to tractors. It is the number one Electronic Ignition Conversion Kit to replace original mechanical points. A Pertronix Points Conversion kit allows you to run a stock distributor while improving the reliability and performance of your ignition system. The Pertronix Ignitor kits simply bolt to the distributor in place of the points assembly and provides a much more accurate trigger signal. This improves the timing accuracy and prevents ‘points bounce’ at higher rpm. The electronic technology also improves the dwell control to improve the spark output of the coil resulting in a hotter spark at the spark plug. With this dependable, self-contained, maintenance free electronic ignition system you'll never replace your points again.

It worked fine while it lasted in my '72 240Z. However, it died last year and left me stranded having to get a tow after only a couple of years and probably less than 2000 miles. It was my birthday and my wife and I were headed 30 min over to the coast for a nice drive and picnic. It was a fairly hot day for CA, and we stopped at a grocery store about 3 miles from our house to get food and drinks. Came out of the store and car was dead, no spark at all. Battery was fine, cranked and cranked, but no electrons firing. I threw in the towel after troubleshooting and messing with it for 40 min. Stood around for 2 hours in the heat waiting for the tow truck. Total trip: 6 miles (half on a tow truck), Time: about 3 hours. Crappy way to spend my birthday!I immediately ordered another one when I got home, but ended up re-installing points and condenser that evening just to get the car running. I returned the Pertronix and am still running the points and trying to figure out what to do next. Internet search turned up a lot of people having the same problem, dead ignitor.Occasionally, I am tempted to order another one, but then I think back to that day sitting in the 95 degree sun waiting for the tow truck to arrive...

My mechanic raved about the Pertronix ignition, said it would transform the car: easier starting, more power, better throttle response. I had also seen it used on several older classic cars. I guess I was expecting too much. Three stars. It is just OK. I have a 240Z and am having the same problem I have heard mentioned on several of the forums: the ignition cuts out at "high" RPMs. Not really high; mine goes nuts at about 4500 rpm. It acts like an rpm limiter; starts stuttering and bucking. This is a new problem, when it still had mechanical points it ran fine up to 6,000rpm. Its not exactly what you expect from a "high performance" ignition system! So far Pertronix hasn't been helpful. I know its not a common car, but it is a comon problem on the Z's. If they have a product that doesn't work properly they should fix it or not sell it. I wouldn't buy it again. I can live with a rev limiter; I don't drive hard. But this is not what I wanted for $200. Oh, did I mention that their wiring diagram was wrong for my car? I finally figured it out, but again they dropped the ball.
