Excellent, extremely well-built product, the only con is the weight. It's very heavy, I have the 5 Step for a 34" high tailgate and my 120 lb 9 mo. puppy walks right up with ease.It does take two hands to lift and set up the steps. They are a little stiff to open, hoping that'll loosen up with use.I resisted paying so much and have purchased several other cheaper, more lightweight aluminum steps that after a month's use became warped and unstable. I have returned all these after my pup became wary of the shake and wobble.Pet Loader steps are well thought out, pay attention to the height of your tailgate and order accordingly...the proper amount of steps (3-4-5 or 6) will reduce the pitch in a manner most comfortable for your pet.

These stairs are the best! No wobble to scare the dogs, slip resistant, wide and they fold up. My Pyrenees were 150 and 170 and these worked very well for them.I used the for the back of my covered truck bed with bedding in the back. They loved it and they are foldable so we used a tie down to secure them in place so they couldn’t move and hurt anyone. The weight is the only factor but they need to be heavy for XL dogs. I even used them to load the truck sometimes.

My Great Dane pups needed some help getting into/out of my Jeep Grand Cherokee, and my back needed help because these "pups" weigh 100 pounds each, and counting. The Pet Loader XL stairs are extremely steady, very easy to open, and simple to use. The carrying handle is a great feature. The stairs aren't light as a feather, but a person of average strength should be able to maneuver them. The one change I would make is to maybe make them a few inches wider. One of my Danes has a tendency to step right on the edge, which makes me a little uneasy, but she stayed on. A little more width would take care of that. I know the stairs fold for transport, but I'll be honest and admit that I only use them in the garage. I find that all pet stairs have the same problem--you need ample clearance behind your vehicle to set them up, and who is going to hold onto your dogs while you put them away? My vet is kind enough to send an assistant out to give me a hand, so I can leave the stairs at home. So, five stars for sturdiness and ease of use, and four for value, since I find their use to be limited in urban parking lots where setup space isn't at a premium.

We started out with a folding plastic ramp for our 90 lb Yellow Lab who has issues with her back legs. She managed well enough with it but didn't like it when it was wet. It was also awkward for us to unfold and there were more than a few pinched fingers despite the hole on the side where your hand is supposed to go.We have a fifth wheel trailer and it has a set of extendable stairs for when you're parked. The steps have a short run and are a little steep. More importantly, the space between the treads is wide open. That makes them a significant challenge for our four legged friend. However, if we put her old ramp up on the stairs she was fine. But then we could not get up one or the other side. My wife is petite, so it was no problem for her to walk up the ramp. However, I am what one could call "stocky" so the ramp wouldn't support my weight. As a result, I started researching to find an alternative that would be both useful for getting our girl in and out of our vehicles and allow all of us to go in and out of the fifth wheel. At first I looked at the lighter "Pet Loaders" but when I saw that this one would handle my weight plus some, it seemed like a pretty obvious choice. I noted that other reviewers said it was heavy but at 29 lbs for the four stepper, I thought no big deal. When it arrived and we got it out of its packaging it was obvious that it was very well designed and built. Next we set it up at the back of our SUV and asked our girl if she wanted to go for an R,I,D,E. She took her leash in her mouth and walked up the PetLoader without so much as an invitation. Nuf said.Although the 18" PetLoader feels heavier than 29 lbs to us, we both manage it just fine. It is a breeze to unfold and refold and it has all kinds of rubber feet at each end to prevent marring of any surfaces. It fits on the back of our SUV, as well as on the rear door sill of our Ford F350 and is the perfect height to rest on the first step down on our RV. This is an excellent product and I commend the designer(s). I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Should've started with this product first. My dog is 150 lb and recently stopped jumping up into my Jeep. So I bought the Twist step that plugs into the hitch. We didn't even start training with that because when it swings under the Jeep it has to be so low to clear the gas tank it was in danger of scraping. Then I bought a plain hitch platform. Too small. Then, on a coworkers advice, a ramp. It was pretty steep once placed in position on the Jeep, and it freaked my dog out that it flexed under his weight. He walked up once and didn't want to use it even to get down. Finally, I bit the bullet and bought these steps. Oddly, the pros and the cons for me are the same. They are made of heavy duty plastic, so they are very sturdy, but that makes them a bit heavy. The step platforms are large, also improving safety and confidence for your best pal, but it means taking up a lot of space in my little vehicle when folded and stowed. For me, I have the steps on the seat or floor on the passenger side in front. So no passenger. I could make my dog deal with them in the back for a short trip if I really needed/wanted a front passenger, but it's a little tight. Anyone with a full or mid size SUV will be OK. Another pro (no con here!) - no training required. Set these down, unfold them, and your dog knows exactly exactly what to do. So overall, I have to give 5 stars because really there is nothing I would change, except maybe next time I might think about 4 door Wrangler! ;-)
