It is worth mentioning that I am not an expert in the mechanical pencil space, so others may provide more technical and detailed insights. From the perspective of an average pencil user, this might very well be the best pencil lead in existence, and is certainly the best lead I have ever used. I pair this lead with the Kura Toga mechanical pencil, and have been really impressed by the combination. This lead has never broken on me during normal use, and I appreciate how it leaves no dust on the paper. I find the HB hardness to be a good middle ground for writing and math equations, which is my primary use case.That said, the increase in quality over other, cheaper options is hard to justify for my use case. This is not a critique towards the lead, which is why I still believe it deserves a 5 star rating. On the other hand, this lead has lasted longer than my previous products, so that does help the value. I can see how more advanced users would be more easily able to justify the cost, but for an average pencil user, this product is nicer than I truly need.

I leveled the lead and the clicked it forward twice. Pentel Super Hi-polymer wrote 20 ft or 6.1 m per lead.Pentel AIN wrote 30 ft or 9m per lead.Pentel AIN STEIN Wrote 50ft or 15m. This was crazy compared to the other leads, so retested and got 54 feet, rounded up a wee bit.Pilot NEOX Graphite HB wrote 26.5ft or 8.1 m.Pilot NEOX Graphite F wrote 35ft or 10.7m.I tested everything twice, and the AlN STEIN three times, just because it's longevity was insane compared to the other HB leads.This time tested with a DelGuard 0.5mm Type-ER, with the eraser post removed, just to make sure didn't absent-mindedly re-knock the lead/ pencil. I click the lead out a few times, attempted to flatten the base to ensure it's flat, and then pushed it back into the barrel so the base of the lead was flush with the nib. Iused the notes section of the Hobonichi Weeks planner.
