I did this with my 6 year old and we had a great time building and now using it. I love that you can change the beads whenever you want a new vibe.

The assembly instructions were minimal, but clear. Assembly was easy. And the finished kaleidoscope worked well. It was nice that the outer tube came without the decorative sticker attached so she could decorate it herself. This is a great little craft kit by PINWHEEL CRAFTS. Perfect for children aged 5-9. This would make a wonderful and fun birthday or Christmas gift.

My kids adored this! It was such a fun project for them and this kit contained enough for them both to complete a kaleidoscope. They may have loved it more than a new lego set :), perfect for a rainy day activity. It was an easy but busy project for both age ranges, 6 and 9, and brought a lot of joy. Would make a great gift for any kid, boy or girl, in your life!

We got this kit for our 7 & 9 year old kids and it's a good concept but not great execution. The idea is there, but the instructions are vague and the pieces don't fit together very well. Our kids still enjoyed this kit since they tackled it as a problem solving / engineer exercise of getting the pieces together and taped where necessary -- but for younger kids age 5 and under, they're likely to get frustrated unless an adult is there to help them out.

The cons: I gave this kit 3 stars out of 5 because not all of the pieces fit together as they should. Also the directions were minimal, especially considering I hadn't handled a kaleidoscope in so long that I couldn't remember the viewing end from the non-viewing end - and you need to know this in order to sort out the various parts. Don't get rid of the box until you are finished with the kit because the pictures on the box are just as valuable as the minimal directions. The eye piece needed to be taped in place because it didn't fit on the cardboard to AT ALL. (The mirrors inside were just a shade too long to allow the plastic piece to snap in.) One end of the tube was somewhat crunched, although it made the viewing lens fit and spin better. The cap for the chamber where the jewels, etc., are sealed did not fit snugly at all until we wrapped the outside of the chamber with 2 or 3 layers of magic tape. The pros: The paper foil covering the paper tube fit perfectly and looks very pretty. The 3 mirror pieces for the inside of the tube fit together well and there was enough tape pieces to put them securely together. They barely fit inside the tube, but some gentle (*very* gentle) tapping got the triangle in place. As I previously mentioned, it would have been better if the mirror pieces were at least 1/4" shorter than the tube. There were plenty of "jewels" and other objects to put in the viewing chamber and when we were done, it worked fine and didn't fall apart. It was a great project for my 8 year old assistant and I to work on together with some occasional input from the engineer of the household. Since I wasn't familiar with the individual parts of a kaleidoscope, I struggled with which part was an "eye piece", a "viewing chamber", etc. The schematic on the sheet of instructions didn't quite cut it as the parts weren't shown and labeled individually, only in part (which wasn't enough for me to figure it out - others might not have this issue.) I do think, however, that this kit is beyond the reach of a 5 year old. Also, part of the construction is much easier if there are 2 people working together on it. We did have fun, though!

Woo, this is crap. Such a great idea. I should have read the reviews. Nothing fits. I didn't even let my kids near it because I, a grown up, couldn't make things fit. I was all excited to do this with the kids but in the end, I threw my hands up in the air and realized no one cares! I highly DO NOT recommend this particular craft. I won't risk other projects from this seller.
