I did the 520 chain on my FZ6R ,worked well. Had to grind the link and for the riveting had no idea how much I flared ,so I did just turn and 1/4 and looks like its enough, maybe too much but the link moves freely like all the others and the width is the same. GOOD TOOL

I put a new DID 530 chain on my Triumph yesterday. I read the neg reviews and had my doubts about the tool. Ground the heads off the the rivets and used the large push pin and it worked fine to break the old chain. You have to make sure you are on rivet and not the side plate. Removed 6 links from new chain and worked fine again. Pressing side plate onto new rivet master link was not easy. I used the press plates to get it started an then channel lock pliers to carefuly get the rivets to protrude through the side plate. I finnished with tool until the width was the same as the other links. The problem is the press plate with the two holes rotates when you tighten the tool. If the rivets aren't protruding through the plate you will smash one rivet. I used the large rivet pin and anvil to flare the heads to DID's spec. If you take your time and flare a little at a tme it works just fine. Watch the Utube vids and use a caliper. Don't see why the tool wouldnt work on smaller chains if you are careful.

Like everybody else, I had a hard time deciding which tool to buy. In the end I decided to go with the Pit Posse chain breaker. Based on other reviews, I was scared about this tool not being able to get the job done since people said the tool would break and that it was only a 2-3 use. Well my experience was very pleasant. I say for the price and the durability of this tool it is WORTH IT! Saved me about $160 because the shop was going to charge me about $200 and for me thats way too much. This tool was about $40 so. I was able to break the chain, press the link plate and rivet all with ease. I do want to stress to take your time and check alignments. Would I recommend this product, hell yeah I would! Thank you Pit Posse for your affordable tool.

Changed my chain and sprockets (03 CB 919)with this kit for the first time. It's a great tool and does the job well. I did not use it to remove my old chain (530), I just used a dremel to cut the old chain off. If you do need to remove links off a chain with this I highly recommend you grind the rivets first. Get a Caliper to do measurements, they're cheap and provide additional insurance of your work. Using a caliper to measure I was able to get the side plates flush with all the other links. The holes on the anvil do not line up with the rivets on my chain, and probably won't if you have a 530 chain. So I compressed the side plates one side at a time so that the rivet protrudes through the anvil. If you try to compress the side plates without the rivets lining up with the anvil's holes, either the rivet can be damaged or it just won't protrude at all. Also my service manual lists the diameter of the staked rivet and I was able to get it within spec using this tool as well. Watch Delboy's garage on youtube. He shows you how to use a chain tool exactly like this one. Go slow and measure often. When riveting, I was giving 1/2 turns and remeasuring the rivet diameter after each. Takes a little elbow grease, but after a few turns you can kinda feel it staking the rivet. Took a while but all my measurements are within spec and I haven't had any issues since.

My intention was to use this kit to rivet my new RK 520 chain. First step would be to press the connecting link together. There were no instructions for this step, but was able to figure it out. The grooved press plate would not fit into the tool because the press plate pin was too large. I ended up using the tool without it. The other press plate with holes was a really tight fit. After successfully pressing the connecting link together, the press plate would not come out of the tool. I ended up having to use a hammer on it and broke off the pin with it being still stuck in the tool, so then I took an Allen wrench and hammered out the press plate pin. Riveting the chain went okay... I did successfully flare the rivet. Was a little harder than I expected. I should have greased the tool threads.

Works well. Grind down the rivets before you try pushing them out. This is great for personal use. Changed a 520 chain with no issues.

Few things about me: I have done very limited maintenance on motorcycles (or cars). I am probably not even average, as far as mechanic skills go. But since I wanted to go ahead and change my chain and two sprockets on my motorcycle, I thought I would give it a go.So, I ordered the chain breaker (not even sure if I would need it at all), and figured that worse case scenario, I would either return it, or sell it on ebay.Anyway, with use of the pit posse chain breaker I was able to cut the new chain to the required (per the manufacturer) number of links, press the plate on the pins, and finally open up the rivets. It wasn't very easy (probably because I didn't have any prior experience), but I did it. I also had a mitutoyo caliper, which helped a lot, both in pressing the plates (I measured the other plates of the chain, so I pressed the master link plate to the same amount), and also for the flare of the rivets. The reason for the 4 stars: although the tool got the job done, it didn't feel very very sturdy. Granted, a 530 chain is the top limitation of the tool, so it was working at max capacity. The handle of the tool was a little too thin to be able to give you a firm grasp. Also, the hardest task of all was probably the push of the plates. The two holes that are supposed to let the rivets come through were a little too small, so it made it quite challenging to properly align the press on the chain, and then start wrenching it in. Also, and I do not know if this happens with all similar tools, as I haven't used any other, When you would start torquing it, the pressing plate would move on the chain, thus miss-aligning the press from the holes. When opening up the rivets, it was also hard to tell how much was too much. I would put the riveter and the anvil, I would squeeze it, give it a couple of turns, and then even though I thought that maybe it was too much, when I would measure the flare with the caliper, it barely even moved.Again, I was completely inexperienced with the whole process, so maybe this had to do a lot with it. But it took me a good half an hour (maybe even more) just to flare the rivets.But... the tool worked well, and now the bike runs pretty nice and smooth. I feel very comfortable about the master link and how it came out, and I do not worry about falling apart at all.All in all, considering the price of the tool, and that I will probably not be using it more than once every few years, I consider this to be a good choice.
